Default I5 or V8?

I'm still looking at buying an H3? My question is about the engine. Is there a any differnce between the 3.5 and the 3.7, as far as the driver can tell? And is there a huge difference between the I5 and the V8? They're advertising a 60HP difference between the V8 and 3.7L, is it work the extra $8g?

theres other difference besides the V-8 too, such as the cast iron diff etc.. but the only way to really know is to go drive them, keep in mind the v-8 is vquicker but it also becomes a heavier car.

I plan on going with a lift and 37"s right off the rip. I'm worried about the I5 being super slow or having to down shift all the time, when im on the highway. And when I'm wheeling and hit a mud hole, I want to be able to romp down on the gas and spit mud all over. Plus with the V8, its a gm V8 that you can get more parts for. I just want to know what you all think. I'm not wanting to shell out the extra cash if the I5 can keep pace with the V8.

Well, it really depends on how you will drive the truck.

The difference between the 3.5 and 3.7 isn;t all that noticable.

The weight of the vehicle between the I5 and V8 Equipped trucks are very minimal. The I5 is 4700lbs and the ALpha (V8) is 4851. If you plan to wheel and run 35's, make sure to go with the off road susp. package. That will get you front and rear lockers as well.

If you plan to trailer anything the V8 is the way to go as well. You're at 6,000lbs vs 4500 with the I5.

I have owned tow H3's, one with the I5 and one with the V8. I got rid of the I5 due to the lack of power.

Go on HUMMER.com and order yourself a brochure. Than go drive the trucks. I guarentee if you drive the Alpha, you won;t even consider the I5 if you are n;t going to tow anything or have more than one passenger.

I see someone mentioned the different towing wts, 4500 vs 6000.
I thought the limiting factor with the I5 for minimul towing was the transmission. Do the I5 and V8 have the same transmission?

Yeah, I'm thinking the Alpha is gonna be the one. My Hummer dealer back home has a huge over stock of 08 models. Thanks for the input. I'll be heading home on EML in February. I'll pick one up before I had back over here. I intend on leaving it with my dad so he can put the lift and everything on it before I redeploy to the states. That way my truck will be finished before I even get home. Thanks again folks!

V8
Its a lot more fun!

Also, If you use it for towing, there isn't a trailer tow button or shift to spot. In other words, you cant turn off over-drive.

If you can, please prove me wrong. Because I was looking all around the steering wheel and dash and I couldn't find anything. I was kinda thinking that there may be a light that turns on when it detects a trailer when you plug it in, but nope.

Trailer tow button??!!!
How about the thing called a gear shifter.
If you are going up a hill, have the foot pedal floored, doing 35 mph at 1700 RPM, maybe you should use that gear shifter thing and go from D to 3.
Ok so now you are doing 40 mph at 1800 RPM with the foot peddle to the floor. Maybe now you should use that 'trailer tow button' other wise known as a gear shift thinging majicker, and put it in 2nd. Wow, now your doin 50 at 1800 RPM with foot only half way to floor.

if you go all the to 37s you deffinitely want the alpha. The I5 is really gonna struggle with that weight tire.

$28,000 for an 08 alpha adv with 200 miles on it. Is this a good price to pay?

I had one of the first '06 H3s in 2005 and drove it in the mountains, on long trips, and all over the place. I would describe the power as adequate, the interior comfort as excellent, and its ability offroad as incredible.
The 2007 I5 has a little more punch to it that you can feel in the seat of your pants, and the V8 is obviously very strong, but I didn't buy the Hummer to burn rubber or tow, I bought it to get through the woods and the creeks and the mud trails here and it did just fine at that. In the heat of Death Valley and on the way to Vegas in 110 temperatures, the I5 never overheated or got very warm and the inside stayed cool with the AC. In the winter the I5 it would always start.

Yeah, that is a good price. I just paid $27,900 for a new 2008 Alpha with sunroof and trailer hitch.
