Well, today I was at the mall, taking the g/f out shopping for her B-Day. We stepped into the Sharper Image store quickly just to check out what they had. On top of having this doohickey that translates your dogs barks into words on this hand-held lcd display, they had a neat Hummer Shake Flashlight. Most people have seen the shake lights around, you shake it for 30 seconds and it has enough power to light for 3-5 minutes or so, kinda handy since batteries can die so easily. It's deffinitly not very bright, but for 20 bucks I picked one up. Although you can get much better light out of a traditional flashlight, if you forget one, don't have batteries, etc. This could save your butt! It's also shockproof and it floats!

I've actually got one of these. It's not the official "Hummer" brand....but it's the exact same unit in disguise.
By shaking this thing back & forth a magnet passes through a coil and charges a battery. The light emitted is rather weak and almost pathetic, but the concept is novel.
The funny part about this thing is...well...how can I say it delicately: those versed in the masturbatorial arts will find themselves well at home...given the "motion" in which this device demands.

I've also seen the Cool looking Hummer Flashlight. But when I talked with the manager about the quality of this flashlight, he did mention that there were quite a few returns for them not working.
It doesn't seem to very well made, and he said he would look through a couple of boxes and pick the best one out of the bunch, because there are more bad ones than good!
But they are pretty neat!

I got one for Christmas last year. In a pinch it works great like on a power outage or in the car where the batteries might not stay "FRESH" for extended periods. It has turned out to be a real life saver. Like I said mine is a year old and still works great. I think they had them in different colors back then - I picked up a yellow one. The LED lights are enough for close up illumination or lighting a path directly infront of you!

Well I had just shakin it quickly in my truck when I left the mall and it was quite dim like I said. However a little while ago I shut all the lights off and shook it for 40 seconds, and man this thing is actually pretty damned bright. Most definitly good enough to use for walking pitch black paths if you have to. Mine seems to work fine and I'll leave it in the truck. I don't expect it to be a tough Mag light, but for what it is, it's damned handy.

yeah.....hat's off to you Grimmy, if you got that thing bright then you obviously possess a superior 'shaking' technique; the force runs strong in you!
I think they have another model coming out where you blow through the end and it spins a small fan and generates power that way.
Maybe they'll come up with a combo model where through both stroking & blowing you could really generate some big energy. Definitely a Hummer accessory!
What I say? What I say???

Steve, I think he was claiming he could "SUCK START" his H2 if the battery went dead!

Re: Hummer Shake Flashlight
Being married 3 times makes me an expert on the shaking aspect! I can do it with either hand.

Re: Hummer Shake Flashlight
all joking aside....if you want a good flashlight....go for the Streamlight Stinger XT....expect to pay about $130 for it...most law enforcement officers carry them. I market foreclosed homes and can attest to the value of a good flashlight in a dark basement in the middle of a very bad neighborhood!
