Has anyone had any problems with the exhaust expanding and contracting, making a loud pinging sound once their H2 has been running? It continues for about 10-15 minutes once it's been turned off and cooled back down. The dealer tells me it is a known problem and that there is nothing they can do about it. Has anyone had this problem and had it fixed?

Same problem, can't fix it. So get a new exhaust system or ignore it.

The dealer also told me that swapping the exhaust may not fix it.

There is a baffle in the muffler that is making the poping sound, somthing to do with how it is welded to the inside of the muffler. There is a TSB on this from GM. My dealer changed out my muffler twice and I still had the noise. So I went and installed a Flowmaster muffler on it, no poping now and it sounds great! BIG-C

Tried to put a little more pressure on my dealer over this issue. This time they came back witha service notice about it from GM. It states not to replace the exhaust system at this time as a fix is currently being worked on and dealers will be notified when it becomes available. - # 03-06-05-008 (11/19/03). This infomation can be found on the gm.com website.

I heard the pipe cooling down after I drove into the garage, but only in the quiet enclosed garage and only during the first few weeks, after that, never heard it again.

There is a TSB out on this. The fix is to wrap the end of the muffler with a metal band.
Give this info to your dealer:
