March 31st should bring answers
As a long time H2 owner and Hummer enthusiast, tomorrow should bring us some answers that we've been wondering about since June, as to whether we own collectibles, or someone will take over Hummer and keep the brand going. I'm going to go out on a limb and predict an announcement tomorrow of an Indian or Chinese Company buyout of the Hummer brand from GM.

Re: March 31st should bring answers
I hope I'm wrong, but I'm betting GM is just gonna flush Hummer down the ****ter not accepting any buyout offers.
Write off an inflated loss or sell for a lesser money?

Re: March 31st should bring answers
DENVER - They came to the Colorado Convention Center to talk about the car industry. But no one who was planning to attend the second annual Rocky Mountain Automotive Summit knew just how many important things they'd have to talk about.
- Obama puts GM, Chrysler on short leash
The CEO of General Motors stepped down and President Barack Obama announced his plans for GM and Chrysler just moments before the summit began.
"We were disappointed about the news regarding Rick Wagoner and General Motors but not totally surprised," Colorado Auto Dealers Association President Tim Jackson said.
Jackson thinks Wagoner was bound to take the fall, since GM and Chrysler requested a combined total of more than $21 billion in federal loans after the companies had already received a total of more than $17 billion in bailout money.
"These are challenging times. And I think they needed a sacrificial lamb and he [Wagoner] was that sacrificial lamb," Jackson said.
In an announcement Monday morning, Obama said GM and Chrysler had not made enough progress in restructuring their companies. He revealed the government has now given GM 60 days to develop a new restructuring plan that involves reducing the company's debt.
Chrysler has 30 days to work out a plan that includes a merger with Italian automaker Fiat.
Both American car companies will be given enough "adequate working capital" to continue operating while developing their plans.
Obama also mentioned a government-supported bankruptcy as a means of solving the problems of the struggling automakers.
"I know that when people hear the word 'bankruptcy,' it can be a bit unsettling," Obama said, "so let me explain what I mean. What I am talking about is using our existing legal structure as a tool that, with the backing of the U.S. government, can make it easier for General Motors and Chrysler to quickly clear away old debts that are weighing them down so they can get back on their feet and onto a path to success."
John Medved, who owns Medved AutoPlex and was named Colorado Auto Dealer of the Year, says bankruptcy isn't a good option for car dealers who have already purchased their inventory from the automakers.
"If they go into bankruptcy and reconfigure the corporation, I don't know what my relationship would be with the manufacturer," he said. "I'd have a tremendous amount of product that I'd already purchased and would be paying interest on, but I don't know where I'd be."
Medved, Jackson and Obama all say allowing the failure of any of America's so-called "big three" automakers, GM, Chrysler and Ford, would be wrong. Jackson and Medved think the key to helping automakers lies with the American people.
"There's nothing wrong in the auto industry that a solid spike in consumer confidence won't cure," Jackson said.
Medved says people in the market for a new car also need to know that "it's OK to buy something American-made."
John Scherer, the CEO of Video Professor, thinks the government should create incentives for people to buy from GM, Chrysler or Ford, possibly in the form of a $10,000 tax credit.
"It'll put salesmen back to work, mechanics back to work, Detroit back to work, because they're going to have to make more automobiles," Scherer said. "Down the road, is it going to cost the government? Yes. They gave you a tax credit of $10,000, they gave me a tax credit of $10,000. But in the meantime, they didn't spend the money we don't have."
Whether the companies go into bankruptcy or not, Obama said that people who buy or already own Chrysler or GM vehicles should not worry about their warranties.
"You will be able to get your car serviced and repaired, just like always. Your warranty will be safe," he said. "In fact, it will be safer than it's ever been. Because, starting today, the United States government will stand behind your warranty."

Re: March 31st should bring answers
I just want to know why the H*** the president of the united states is talking to us about our car warranties instead of doing his job. I can see it now, commercials for GM vehicles with Obama as the spokesman - move over blackberry....

Re: March 31st should bring answers
In a press conference this morning, GM CEO Fritz Henderson confirmed that despite a promise from ex-CEO Rick Wagoner in February to announce a decision by the end of the first quarter, GM has still not made up its mind about what to do with the HUMMER brand.
“We have been in dialog with several interested parties,” said Henderson, adding that GM would not have an announcement today, “but frankly, we’re within weeks (of making a decision).”
Maybe by June????????????????? Well, at least they're not axing it yet................

Re: March 31st should bring answers
Welcome to the USASR! Where the socialists have began their march to communism. Telling cars mfg's how to run their business. Either it is a loan and they pay it back or it is an investment and it is earned back. Either way, those bastards profited off Fannie mae and Freddie Mac while not regulating it even thoough Bush and MCCAIN warned them. Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae is what killed this economy along with fraudulent (BUT ALLOWED) accounting practices and Fake money poured into the economy by these entities.
For GM to dismiss Hummer would be shameful.

Re: March 31st should bring answers
The facts are -
Bush and McCain didn't do anything about anything!
Many people lost millions of dollars thanks to George "What the fook am I doing" Bush.
Over four thousand brave men and women have lost their lives due to the most poorly planned war in history using the most bogus made up reasons for going to war in history.
The unregulated banking system ran themselves and the nation into ruin.
The automobile industry proved that it cannot run itself!
Whether Obama's plan works or not he's taking the bull by the horns!
Disclaimer: this rant is not aimed at anyone, just my opinion.

No Offense but you have no clue what the Facts are. On tape are BUSH in 01 saying if Fannie and Freedie were not regulated it would cause a worldwide emergency. Also in 03 McCain echoed that. All the while Barnie Frank (Head of Finance and Banking at the time) is on tape saying Fannie and Freddie had no reason to be regulated. And to say otherwise is alarmism at its best. Nevermind Chris Dodd was the head of Countrywide Mortgage that robbed billions from investors and here he is now a senator. Lets not forget Geitner who heads the IRS now did not pay taxes for years and had to pay it back (I am sure with his own money...eyeroll)
With the Chinese and the EU investing so much in Fannie and Freddie and Bush knowing the ramificaitons if FandF fail he bailed them out with almost a trillion dollars.
You say Obama is doing something? Yeah he is. While Every country is quietly asking what is he doing, He already knows. He is BK the US economy so that the sheep, i.e. you, will say capitalsm does not work and we can shift to the radical liberal agenda. (I said redical liberal, not liberal agenda) They want everyone to depend on the government and us to have to go to them for everything.
No offense, but stop reading the times and watching Olberman. They are sheep. Expand your news sources and see how far one story varies. The fluff for obama always leaves out the nuts and bolts and ramifications.

Re: March 31st should bring answers
And to talk about the Unregulated Banking system being Bush's fault is a f-ng JOKE! He tried and while he had a majority in the house, he did not have a majority that did not need the dems. It is not in print of him asking for regulation nor is it in print for Frank to say it was silly for the Rep's to ask for it. It is in video. The Dems were getting rich off Fannie and Freddie. That includes that crooked Muslim in the White House now.
All you have to do is WATCH THIS!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MGT_cSi7Rs
If you want to live in the dark then ignore it. It is video RIGHT FROM THE DEMS MOUTHS!
http://www.usatoday.com/money/compan...lobbying_N.htm
"It is exactly the kind of event we warned about and tried to prevent over the years," White House press secretary Dana Perino said. "Remember that we have highlighted the systemic risk posed by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac because of the very large role they play in housing markets and because of their business practices."
She said the White House has asked Congress "for years" to establish a strong independent regulator to oversee the institutions.
In 2003, for instance, President Bush asked Congress for stronger government oversight, in the form of a regulator with the ability to control the companies' activities and oversee their accounting practices. The administration also has wanted the companies' massive mortgage portfolios reduced."

I would think with gas creeping back up, prices will fall again.
I also would think if they kill the brand (For now) the prices will go up initially.
You never know. If they kill off the brand for good, they may always have a high value. (Like a 60's Bronco, older landcruiser, of a LR dEFENDER)

Re: March 31st should bring answers
Badace - well said on all accounts.
For the rest of the forum - the Hummer brand is dead. There is no way CEO Obama (excuse me I need to throw up) will accept Hummers being manufactured in his car company. Not a chance. He will not accept any restructuring plan that includes Hummer. Our only chance of survival is if someone else buys it and in my opinion that is a very remote possibility. Look at my signature - all 3 of my cars are on the endangered species list. And these are the only kinds of cars I buy, so you can imagine how foul of a mood this socialist / communist/ tree hugging administration has me in. Not to mention many other things that I won't get into here.

Saying something and doing something about it are two different things. Which explains why Bush didn't do anything, he can't do two things at the same time. If you actually believe all the BULL your talking and videos your posting links to I won't continue this any further because you're way out there. Have you considered going on the Jerry Springer show?

Re: March 31st should bring answers
I'd love to hear from the United Auto Workers that endorsed Aracka-Bahama right about now. His antics with the auto industry is going to force GM (and possibly Chrysler and Ford) into bankruptcy. And then what will the mighty UAW have? NOTHING! Bet they are second guessing that decision right about now. What kind of change do you think they are asking for around the union halls these days? Probably spare change, because those poor fools were used and abused by the Democratic Party and are about to be out of a job. Oh, but that is right. It is all the prior administrations fault.
As to the question as to why the press isn't reporting and interviewing any of the UAW and asking them these questions - they are too busy congratulating themselves for getting that fool elected in the first place.

All I have to say is where are your videos putting the words in their mouths? Oh I got it. Yeah you libs believe what you want no matter what. As far as Bush cant do 2 things at once, my question is how many Can Obama screw up at once. That high score gets topped by the master every freaking day. As far as not continuing the conversation, I am suprised you can even read this with your head so far up your butt. I give you facts with the ultimate evidence (VIDEO) and you tell me I am talking bull.
It is funny because your whole argument is the same one that the blacks, sorry, fake african americans, give us as to why Mike Vick should be back in the NFL. You guys keep using your smoke and mirrors but when we are pledging allegance to the Quoran (Or whatever) and changing the money to have Obama's picture on it, come back here and read this again. Then you will know how wrong you are.
I am not singing Bush's praises, but he said he would lower taxes, he did, he said he would protect us as best he could, he did. He is not the best conservative, but He is a far better leader than a radical muslim liar that has a blind following that wishes to change the greatest country in the world.
