Default H1 strange noise

Hey Guys,
this is really a great forum, I'm from Germany and new here, I own a 96 H1 in a stretched version.
Now I've got some problems with the car. When I drive into a curve I hear a strange noise in the rear area. Its like a metal crack.
Could it be the halfshaft??I've heard that it's a typicall H1 problem because of the brake on the shaft.
What else could it be??

The second problem is that the red engine check light is on while engine is running what could be the problem??

The noise could be a half-shaft problem. Could also be a differential problem.

As for the check engine light, it may or may not be related. Only way to know for sure is to pull the code! Not sure if the auto parts stores out there have OBD II scanners, but here in the US any auto parts store will pull the code for you for free.
