Is it true that if the head unit is replaced the stock one has to be kept in the car? if so where have people put the stock head unit.? Also I want to put a screen where my unit is and a radio/headunit where my onstar is. Has anyone move the onstar?
Please post pics of heaunits and new onstar locations.>..
Thanks

I don't have any pics handy, but I saw that exact install done by JR Customs.

They did a touchscreen where the stock radio is, and the DVD head unit where the Onstar was. And they moved the Onstar inside of the center console.

The stock Head unit does not have to be left in the car. Just remove it. What you most likely heard was that the stock head unit can't be installed in another H2 due to programing. But from what I understand it can be done.

I have been told you have to keep the head unit if you want to keep OnStar. I know someone who put a 7 inch screen where the head unit is. They had to do some cutting behind the head unit and tuck it in a little further for every thing to fit. He then had the OnStar move to the drivers side kick panel and put a KenWood head unit in that space.

WhiteH2kid I think you have to keep the head unit in people have said that they put the stock head unit where the factory sub is. I have a friend here in port jeff that does great work he just did my H2 there are pics of it in the customizing section under new subs. Get in touch and we can hang out.

Soundgate makes an interface called the digistar b. It lets all the onstar functions still work with an aftermarket head they go for 149.95 + shipping. I bought one to install an in dash dvd but have been sinking money into building my new house. If you are interested in it let me know and I wil give you a good price. It is still unopened and it is brand new. I got it from logjam. On Star interface

NJ H2: I am about to have an Alpine dealer install a system similar to what it seems you have (but I've opted for a fixed screen). Where did you place onstar, in the center console as Detonate did, or elsewhere? How did you get the wheel controls to work (the installer told me he won't guarantee it and that it has only worked off an on when he has done it in the past)?

I have the fixed Alpine screen you can see the same install in the dash as mine. I did not opt to have the ONstar and CD Changer put in my console like the one pictured.

I have the DVD Alpine NAV but you can get the ROSEN/NECVOX CD NAV as an option.
ROSEN/NECVOX

A few places make the interface's for onstar and steering wheel controls for an aftermarket head unit. I got mine from pac audio but there web site is down.
Got the PM

I am in process of purchasing the Pioneer AVIC-N1, this unit has everything. Nav, G-Force, Tilt, Sat radio and more. I was told they have adapters for the steering wheel controls and Onstar. Has anyone install the AVIC-N1?
