had them put it in my truck prior to pick up. its the only oil I've ever used in any of my vehicles. BMW's Roundel magazine has had several good articles on it over the years

so, when using synthetics, how far do you go between oil changes? Reading Big Z's post on the article for synthetics seems to indicate that every 6000-7500 is a safe bet with synthetics. What's your experience?

Z, thanks for the link, it was a good read, enjoyed that very much.
I will stay with regular oil, no synthetics for me. I have had many cars in my life, as most of you do. From small engines to V12s, American, German, English, Italian, few over 100K miles and I never had one single problem with any engine, even when I forgot to change oil for a long time on few occasions. Step on the gas, vehicle always shoots out like an ICBM, in the snow or 120 degrees in Death Valley. I do not plan to fix something thats never broken.

Roundel had a did a unscientific study on beemers with over 200k or 300k I don't remember. The two things that stood out were oil changes approx every 3000mi and synthetic oil. yes it costs more to do this but it pays off in the end. Synthetics do last longer but the rate of accumulation of contaminants in the oil from the engine stays the same. so there is still benefit from frequent oil changes--for what its worth

I put Mobil 1 in at 2800k and the dealer promising to replace now that I,m close to 6K. It is best to maintain same time frame for synthetic oil change as others mentioned. For those in wide climate changes it is best as it does reduce friction being more slippery than conventional. Go for it!

In consequence of reading the synthetics article supplied by Big Z, I am actually convinced that synthetics is better, and I saved the article for future debate use. How much better or if it matters at all in most automobile usage is still questionable to me. As stated above, I can only make the judgment to stay the course as before based strictly on my own experience of never having any engine problem with regular oil. I can understand why some use synthetics. I sold 2 cars in 02, both buyers asked me if I used synthetics, and said they will switch to synthetics. “It’s your car now, go ahead and use synthetics if you like.”
