911 surviving families VS Military surviving families
Love him or loathe him, he nailed this one right on the head..........
By Rush Limbaugh:
I think the vast differences in compensation between victims of the September 11 casualty and those who die serving our country in Uniform are profound. No one is really talking about it either, because you just don't criticize anything having to do with September 11. Well, I can't let the numbers pass by because it says something really disturbing about the entitlement mentality of this country. If you lost a family member in the September 11 attack, you're going to get an average of $1,185,000. The range is a minimum guarantee of $250,000, all the way up to $4.7 million.
If you are a surviving family member of an American soldier killed in action, the first check you get is a $6,000 direct death benefit, half of which is taxable.
Next, you get $1,750 for burial costs. If you are the surviving spouse, you get $833 a month until you remarry. And there's a payment of $211 per month for each child under 18. When the child hits 18, those payments come to a screeching halt.
Keep in mind that some of the people who are getting an average of $1.185 million up to $4.7 million are complaining that it's not enough. Their deaths were tragic, but for most, they were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Soldiers put themselves in harms way FOR ALL OF US, and they and their families know the dangers.(Actually, soldiers are put in harms way by politicians and commanding officers.)
We also learned over the weekend that some of the victims from the Oklahoma Citybombing have started an organization asking for the same deal that the September 11 families are getting. In addition to that, some of the families of those bombed in the embassies are now asking for compensation as well.
You see where this is going, don't you? Folks, this is part and parcel of over 50 years of entitlement politics in this country. It's just really sad. Every time a pay raise comes up for the military, they usually receive next to nothing of a raise. Now the green machine is in combat in the Middle Eastwhile their families have to survive on food stamps and live in low-rent housing. Make sense?
However, our own US Congress voted themselves a raise. Many of you don't know that they only have to be in Congress one time to receive a pension that is more than $15,000 per month. And most are now equal to being millionaires plus. They do not receive Social Security on retirement because they didn't have to pay into the system. If some of the military people stay in for 20 years and get out as an E-7, they may receive a pension of $1,000 per month, and the very people who placed them in harm's way receives a pension of $15,000 per month.
I would like to see our elected officials pick up a weapon and join ranks before they start cutting out benefits and lowering pay for
our sons and daughters who are nowfighting.
'When do we finally do something about this?' If this doesn't seem fair to you, it is time to forward this to as many people as you can.

My guess would be the insurance companies....get this when 9/11 happened the following year my Errors and Omissions insurance doubled...when I asked as to why since I had no claims, they told me it was due to 9/11....now how many real estate E&O claims did 9/11 cause...was just a reason to spank me for more money with no just reason in my eye...

Re: 911 surviving families VS Military surviving families
I agree with Rush, I normally do in most cases.
But he forgot to mention that a lot of the victims on 9/11 were firefighters putting themselves in harms way.
Also, I think the monies "awarded" to 9/11 victim's families come from civilian donations and private companies and not the government like the military.
Funny (not at all really) how in recent history Americans were so patriotic for such a short time and now our causes and passion have been lost. I have cookbooks of my grandmother's from WWII, they bought and thought nothing but American, it's sad.

I miss hearing the national anthem that was always played at noon time on the local radio stations during the days/months after 9/11

Re: 911 surviving families VS Military surviving families
RYD, while you make some compelling points, you and your buddy Rush Pillhead omit the fact that literally none of the 9/11 surviving families have come int moneys totalling anywhere your lowest estimates! Do not misconstrue, I think our fighting men and women are treated abominably both in terms of compensation AND benefits/care (Walter Reed). But this does not justify mischaracterizing the situation of Families surviving 9/11. Check the facts. What was promised is typically NOT what was delivered. And if you want to rant, how abut how ridiculously we compensate our teachers? They're only responsible for shaping our most precious resource; our children, our future. Is it any wonder education in the U.S. lags so far behind other countries?

It wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that the teachers aren't held accountable for poor testing results or that the teachers have stopped putting grades on homework so the poor poor children don't get their feelings hurt for turning in crap. You liberal turds have set this country on the road to ruin.

I can answer your question.
That's a medal.
I've seen medals before, and that looks like a medal to me.
Hell, I've even been awarded a few back in the day....
That one's special though....
I believe it to be the medal awarded to those released from prison.
You know, people that were able to maintain their virginity throughout their sentence receive the honorable tiny butthole paper roll!

I've not seen this happen in our school district per se...BUT...I certainly have seen where our daughter doesnt get to do a project or learn something in class since the intelligence challenged individuals cannot keep up with the smart kids....so in effect they have to "dumb down" the class so no one gets left behind.
Look at it this way, if I don't keep up in my business, will my competition dumb themselves down so poor ole Mikey doesnt get left behind and go under?...hell no they wont...its a tough world out there, and I feel the kids should be more prepared for it.
You know I think they (the teachers) should be able to paddle kids, I know when I got paddled it always got my attention and I snapped back into line.
Our daughter has some excellent teachers, ones that I would have no trouble if she role modeled any of them.

Well, there is some truth to what you say. Except for a lick from an old girlfriend, I can, in all candor, say that I possess a strictly one way valve, EXIT ONLY! However, as stated in the Sunday thread, the mini T.P. roll is just in case I run into some little ashholes!
Actually, it's a makeshift adhesive tape rapid dispenser. If you're ever bleeding or sprained, you'll be glad that I have it!
