Default RS5000 RANCHO SHOCKS

I'm contemplating replacing my stock shocks with Rancho RS5000 hi performance shocks. I am not lifting my H2, just want to replace stock shocks. My question is, do these really make a difference? I will only be doing street driving, but if I can improve the ride, I will do it..Thanks for your help.

We had the adjustables on our last truck and really liked them. I kept them on ( 7 ) all the time, on and off-road.

Nice inexpensive upgrade to the ride of your truck.

go with the 9000's. Even for sreet only applications you will have the option of adjusting how stiff/ loose your ride and handleing will be.

With the 5000's you will not have the choice of adjusting.

I would however get the 5000 steering stabilizer esp. if you are going with a larger/ wider rim and tire package.

I am planning on upgrading my 18" Billet MC2 wheels soon to either 22" or 24", so maybe with the bigger wheels, the 9000's would be a better way to go from the start. Thanks

Rancho and Monroe are owned by the same company. Monroe has some self-adjusting shocks that are real close to the stock shocks, but improve street & offroad feel & performance (Monroe/Rancho actually make the stock Hummer shocks). At least they claim their monroe replacements are much improved over the stock shocks.

If you don't have air option in rear, the 9000 & 5000s will cost you some ride height in the rear, since the stock shocks are high pressure gas charge and assist in determining ride height. The 5000/9000 shocks are not high pressure gas charged.

I am having to install coil spring spacers in the rear to get back the 1" that I lost from adding the 9000s.

If you don't have rear air option, I have a brand new set of the Monroes in the box I will let go cheap. They are aluminum/silver finish with black boots.

BTW, the 9000s are so good that I am not willing to give them up and would rather install the coil spring spacers than go back to stock.

Yeah, I think it all depends on how much pressure the shocks are charged at. Even Ranchos Pro shocks are gas charged, but at only like 100psi where the stock shocks are 285-300psi EACH.

Hey Phil, after reading that "tire pressure" thread, I went and checked mine. Discount Tire put 65 in the rear and 55 in the front! I dropped them all to 45#. My MTs are max rated at 65#. Feels a little better this morning

WOW- I learn something new everd day on this site.

I too have coil springs. But I never thought to measure before and after for the ride height. The rear of the truck does sit a little lower than the front. That's OK by me though. It'll still fit in the garge w/ 37's and a stealth rack.

10 - 4 on tire pressure after a tire shop. You should check the lug nuts with a torque wrench also if the wheels were off.

But since this is a shock thread - I had put Bilstien shocks on my 2500HD Silverado and what a difference that made. Has anyone tried Bilstiens on a Hummer and how did they do? I see a lot of good response to the Rancho 9000 but just wondered about the Bilstien since they were the bomb on the Chevy trucks.

Just a different take.

1. I don't have Air, but, if there's a ride height difference, My Micrometer can't pick it up....Changed all 4 shocks also! ...so I Guess I wouldn't...Notice!

2. Shocks aren't Supports!, Their Dampeners...More Air pressure in the shock...Just means...LESS Tire bounce!....More responsive.

3. Was the torsion bar adjusted up for the tire height or look??

I had bilsteins on my last Hummer and they were lovely...
I am currently running the Rancho 9000's though. I like to try stuff out first and then bitch about it if it works like crap.
