Default Engine Mods

I was looking into an aftermarket air intake. What are peoples opinions on them?? And how about the aftermarket exhausts that they offer? Also, by replacing engine parts such as these, does it void the dealer warranty???

Always search because there is a ton of good info archived on here. These things are discussed and debated frequently. From what I have read the gains from the intake are not significant. We have a cold air intake already that does it job very well. Some will advise against it, but I like the K&N drop in filter, just make sure you maintain it properly. I have always used their products and feel that a company doesnt stick around that long by selling a bad product. Thats a whole other arguement though.

Borla seems to be the popular for the exhaust mod. Twin pipes, cat back. I am not sure what your gains are going to be, but opening up the exhaust cant ever hurt.

Also I have read some good things about engine management and ECU upgrades. Maybe someone will chime in who has gone this route. I have not. Welcome. Cheers!

RE: Warranty. Always check with the dealer first, get things in writing or have them install it.

Do a little research on K&N filters and decide if lowering your filtering efficiency for absolutely no gain in power is worth it.

I've had the K&N on past trucks and just ordered it for this one. There are plenty of people that think they are bad but it you keep them cleaned they are fine. And don't over oil them.

I have a Gibson catback also. I didn't notice any power improvement, but I'm sure it helps a little. It's noisier then stock, but not to much. Almost a little to ricey for my taste, though. I wouldn't mind trying something else.

I got a pcm tune and I did notice the power gain on that one.

All together the truck is noticeable faster.

Don't you think if there were any quick and easy wasy to get more MPG and performance out of the I-5 the GM enginers would have done it?

No doubt the alpha is better. I just wish they had a manual transmission with it.

And, no, I don't think GM would have done it. There's all kind of reasons not to, from a business stand point. I think the head guys (at any auto maker) pick a goal and that's what the engineers have to be at. The engineers are held back by the economics of it all.
