Default Is the 4HI Button Always Lit Up?

Guys,

First of all I'm really excited to be part of this Hummer community; This is my first post and I just joined the forum today. 2 days ago I became a proud owner of a 2003 Hummer H2 ... my very first Hummer ... In fact my very first SUV Class vehicle. I'm coming from your regular toyota's ... so this is a big move for me.

Since this is my first Hummer, please bear with me cause there might be some very stupid questions, this one included.

So I noticed that the LED Light next to the 4HI button aways stays on, indicating the vehicle is in 4-Wheel Drive; I was wonderin - does this Hummer always stay in 4-Wheel Drive? Does that button always stay lit? Reading through the manual, I understood shifting in & out of 4HI Lock and 4LO Lock and the need for either; but I wasn't 100% sure if the 4HI is the "standard" position.

I'm sure I will have other questions as I go along ... thanks & appreciate any responses.

H2's are full time 4-wheel drive so yes the light will always be lit up. The other 4 modes are for offroad.

Another question guys ...

I don't see any indication of having turned on your headlamps inside the dashboard, is that normal? In most vehicles, there is an Icon that lights up in the Dashboard that tells you that your headlamps are On or Off; but I don't see anything.

Is the indication icon on the dash possibly broken?

Thanks!

There is no 'headlight' indicator as you're describing on 03-07s that I'm aware of...I typically only see those on foreign cars that don't have the 'auto on/off' headlight feature.

If your headlights are on, your dashboard lights (instrument cluster, various buttons and nobs, etc.) will light up; that's a pretty good indicator in my book.

We do have a high-beam indicator light though...

Ok - That makes sense - and it works absolutely fine with me! You're right, the instrument cluster and various other buttons & nobs do light up. No gripes about it.

Again, these question are coming from a complete Hummer n00b; just wanting to make sure I'm not missing something or doing something wrong.

Thanks for the response; appreciate it.

i use the red side marker lights as a way of telling if the headlights are on...you can see them in your wing mirror.

I have owned many cars and none had an indicator to tell you that the lights where on in the dash....only when the high beams are activated, you see something come on.

Hi Indy,

Actually as one of the other members pointed; I think it's a feature common in newer 'foriegn' cars. I'm coming from Toyota's and the 3 that I've owen - Sienna, Yaris & Prius - all had an Icon that lit up on the Dash which tells if the Headlamps are On. Coming from these 3 vehicles, I think I was sort of automatically looking for it.

However, objectively looking at it, I understand now it's niether important nor necassary. The position of the Switch in itself is telling of whether the Headlamps are On or not. Plus the instrument cluster lighting up is also a good indication - so essentially I'm good on this.

There are a couple other issues that I'm running into; it being a 2003 with over 100K miles on it ... but I think I should start another thread about it.

But let me shoot one here ...

I don't think the heated seats are working. When I click either of the 2 buttons on the side (The Horizontal OR the Vertical), the light flashes for a second but goes -- doesn't stay On. The lights that are within the Buttons. This is happening on both sides (Driver & Passenger). I don't know if it's just the buttons or if the entire 'Heating' feature is not working. If I'm not mistaken - when you press the button (either), the Light should come on and the progressive lights should indicate the Level of heat turned on, correct?

However, in my case, the light turns On and immideately turns Off and doesn't stay On. Am I missing anything? Or is this something for the Shop?

Thanks Guys!!

My heated seat lights stay on when they are active....do your seats get warm after a minute or so? Maybe check the fuse?

I don't think they are getting warm; at least I don't think so. It's really weird; when I press either of the buttons, I can even hear a click and the light just basically clicks on & off. Even if I keep the button pressed, the light will click on and off.

Where is this fuse? How can I check it?

Thanks!!
