Hi Guys,
Anyone know the EZ way of removing the black HUMMER door sill plates. I bought some CHROME(yes chrome) ones that I'm going to put on, but need to know if there is an easy way of taking off the factory ones(without chipping the paint).
Thanks

The new ones may not cover factory sills but, I found some the same size and mounted them onto factory sills using some nice polished screws. Turned out quite nice.

Off the top of my head, you may try careful application of a heat gun and a plastic putty knife.

1. Firmly grasp and gently pull the front door sill plate to disengage the retaining clips.
2. Remove the front door sill plate from the vehicle.
3. Inspect for broken or missing retaining clips and replace as necessary.

I'm assuming you're talking about the ones that are held on by double sided tape. Heat guns can help. What I do is just be very carefull with a flat blade screwdriver and pop it up, then peel the double sided tape away that sticks to the body. It takes a few minuites but
leaves no mark unless you're careless with the screwdriver.

I forgot to mention the ones I have are lighted and say HUMMER in light blue when door opens. That is the reason We screwed them to the sills to lend support to the lights from underside. The sill was sort of like a channel iron shape and fit snugly over the factory. I had not thought about the other type needing to be flush.
Sorry

Hey Taz,
Thanks for your input. I wasn't specific enough, but I was talking about the black plastic sill that says Hummer on them(double sided tape ones), but I also did purchase the light up(blue) aluminium sills that you are talking about, so as soon as I have time to put them on (thanks to you), I'll already know what to do, except for the wiring? I'm pathetic. I've had them, for 3 months now, but haven't even read the instructions. Winter here is WAY to cold to do any work on my truck in my garage, so ANY DAY NOW!!!

That is the inner sill. It pulls right up and it's a great place to route wires going from the front to the rear end of the truck.

Hell, I had to go look at my truck to see the difference. Wasn't thinking of 2 different sills.
