Clunk on Aceleration from a stop
Im hearing a clunk (non-driveline) in the front end when i accelerate just off a stop....
Brought it to hummer, they replaced a bad idler arm (Showed me on the lift....it was definatly bad) and a bad wheel bearing (Once again, showed me on the lift and it was wasted). So they did good replacing 2 parts, and the wheel bearing was REALLY bad....but still i have the clunk.
Anyone got this same clunk sound? Sounds like a stiff bushing sound or somthing to that effect.

Re: Clunk on Aceleration from a stop
Yuppers. I get that sound also. New Idler and Pitman...and Cognito support. Had everything checked and aligned and all looks good. I'm wondering if it might be a noise from the brakes??? Don't know.

Re: Clunk on Aceleration from a stop
If the clunk is on acceleration and braking then it sounds like hubs might be bad or as you have already fixed bearings. If the clunk is is when turing the wheels left or right and so forth then I would look into the steering components more. I have had both of these problems and I am curently in the process of re-doing the entire steering system. This including new pitman arm, new Idler arm idler support, pitman support and idler block, with new tierods to finish it off.The clunk sound on acceleration was fixed for me when I replaced the HUB.
thanks

Re: Clunk on Aceleration from a stop
Remove skidplate to see if that's causing it
Also, check bolts on rear lower control arms.

Re: Clunk on Aceleration from a stop

Re: Clunk on Aceleration from a stop
A broken motor mount can cause this sound also....

Re: Clunk on Aceleration from a stop
I have a clunk, too, when going from a stop position to accelerate. I was told it's probably just a suspension noise (because of the weight of the H2). Now that I'm reading others have this and it's not the suspension, I'll have to make another trip to the dealer.

Re: Clunk on Aceleration from a stop
Check your front diff mounting bolts. We just had one in where the rear lower bolt fell out, the diff spun up and took out the oil filter, luckily the customer had the presence of mind to shut it down before killing the motor.

Re: Clunk on Aceleration from a stop
HUMTECH knows better than me for sure but, just wanted to toss in the age old problem with GM trucks ans suvs. There has always, why is beyond me it cannot be corrected, been the dreaded drive shaft clunk. It is most likely not the problem here but, all should keep this problem in mind for future.

Re: Clunk on Aceleration from a stop
True, that annoying but subtle clunk from a stop. There was a "fix" for this but it still seemed to come back in some cases. There was an updated slip yoke for the shaft that was nickle plated. Problem was mostly in full size trucks but was also a problem on some early model h-2's. This was a very subtle clunk type noise and was not damaging but more of an annoying problem. All in all worth a look though. Another way to band-aid this problem was to remove the rear shaft and lube the splines of the slip yoke with a gm "special lube" similar to lithium grease but a little thicker.

Re: Clunk on Aceleration from a stop
Oh yeah, I forgot about the drive shaft clunk. Mine does it when I come to a slow corner, make the turn and then speed up.
Then there's the front body mounts too
