Default Reno - Tahoe Pics

My wife and I drove down to Reno for our 5th anniversary. We drove up Peavine peak just outside of town one day. You could see the smoke from the forest fires south of Reno.

We drove over to Lake Tahoe for a day. It was beautiful there. Next trip we will stay in Tahoe instead of Reno. We went up Barker pass which quickly gets you up the side of the mountains. After that we went by a couple of lakes and went to the top of Mt. Ellis. The trail ended up in Tahoma at the Tahoe entrance to the Rubicon. Saw a couple of really nice heeps heading to the Con.

It was a really nice trail, had lots of rocky spots with some beautiful views of the mountains, lakes, and valleys. The directions for the trail i got out of this book.

http://www.4x4books.com/gtcan.htm

It had very detailed trail info with mileage to turns and landmarks, and rated the difficulty of different parts of the trail. We navigated the whole drive with this book. I bought a topo map of the area but didn't need it.

Very cool! I've been wanting to run that area (Barker/Blackwood Cyn/Ellis Peak) but haven't got to it yet. Next time you come down, let us know and we'll take you down that section of the Rubicon to Observation Point.

It was a beautiful area with some moderate trails, at the top of Mt. Ellis was a very difficult section of very loose gravel with boulders strewn everywhere. Hopefully I will be able to get back down there soon!!
