Talking Just bought an H2 SUT - lots of questions

After researching for a couple of weeks, I found a 2005 SUT in Pewter Metallic with 59,XXX miles on it about 100 miles form home. I went down to look at it today and got a damn good deal. Part of my negotiation was the fact that some things weren't working like I thought they should or didn't look 100%.

I'm hoping you guys can help answer some of my questions:

1) No keys for the roof racks - can I get these form GM?

2) The top of the windshield was missing the weatherstripping. I'm sure a local windshield repair place can put in a new one for cheap. Your thoughts?

3) Drivers side mirror does not fold in when activating the button. The passenger side folds in just fine. What could be wrong here and what am I looking at in cost?

4) The storage bin in the bed was missing the lock. Can I get this whole piece replaced easily?

5) The end caps on the roof rails at the front seemed separated from the roof. Is this an age thing or is something wrong? Both sides were the same.

6) There is some gaposis where the rear of the roof rail meets the molding. Again, is this to be expected?

7) No tonneau cover, but it looks like the rails are there for one. Are the rails there regardless?

8) The driver's side headlight ribber surround didn't mate up to the grill very well. Any ideas? I did notice driving home that the headlights need adjustment.

And of course, a picture of the SUT is required!

First objective: lose the steps and de-chrome the beastie.

Better pictures to come with a real camera and a thorough washing.

Here's what I am selling and replacing with the H2:

The roof rack keys should be available at any GM dealer and the top weatherstrip piece is also available from GM. I'd get the top weatherstrip from GM because aftermarket ones have a history of buzzing and making noise. I wouldn't be suprised if your side windshield peices need taping down with the elements getting to them from the top. Those pieces can get very noisy at highway speeds if not fastened properly. The folding mirror mechanism is expensive to replace and has a history of going out. If you can live with it, I recommend putting that at the bottom of your to do list. Congrats on your purchase, you'll love it!

i am hoping that you pulled a carfax on this....

it just seems to me that there are tell tale signs of front end collision...

headlights not mating up... windshield... molding has gaps....

im not sure on costs for the headlight(s).. ill let someone handle that.

keys for luggage rack... look at the end cap, and there should be a number scribed on it..like E005 or osmething like that... post it up here and someone might have the same # and could sell you some copies.. i did that and it only cost me $20 from a member here.

windshield... if the glass is good.. im sure the weather stripping is a very cheap fix from any auto glass company.

the pastic trim... someone here might be able to get you a part# or call GM for it... could try junk yards... i think that will be an odd ball that might be hard to locate. That piece looks like it will hold down the upper lights mounting plastic... ya that will create a ton of road noise till you get it fixed..

the locks for the storage area im sure you can find at a parts store easily.. i could be wrong tho

Carfax was indeed pulled.

Are the headlights adjustable? There is one hole in the front.

I haven't washed it yet, but here's a couple of pics after de-chrome stage 1 (steps and hub covers). The chrome gas door is off too, but I'm waiting for the proper surround to come from gmpartsdirect.

WELCOME!

Regarding the mirrors...your motors are more than likely seized up. Check this thread out: http://www.elcovaforums.com/forums/s...ght=mirror+fix. You've got to drill down a bit, but EasyEd posted pics to his fix and I posted a one page printable summary of his steps in the thread as well, also found here: ftp://www.guruerror.com/easy_eds_mir...et_edition.pdf

Check this site out for some of your other stuff: http://parts.nalleygmc.com

It looks like your windshield trim (aka MOLDING, Windshield Garnish & Reveal) will set you back about $42.63. Part number: 15857806

EDIT: ...and NICE Mustang!

Nice SUT! Your front windshield was obviously replaced and they did a poor job of replacing the trim pieces. As someone already said, you'll have to stick them to the windshield or they will buzz loudly. Replacing windshields are common on the H2. I'm on my third. Because of the upright angle of the windshield it cracks easily when hit by gravel on the road.
The rails indicate it once had a tonneau cover - they don't come with that rail. The gap on the roof trim is puzzling. Looks like someone punched out your lock in the bed compartment. You can get a new lock from a parts store, however, I don't think that's a very expensive part from GM. Your tires have lots of tread and look brand new in the pictures!

I thought all SUTs came with those rails on the bed sides...just like all H2s come with the ones on the roof.

GM #10397710 and 10397711 (40 on the diagram)

Yep, I think all SUTs come with those bed rails.

Thanks everyone for the links. I did a lot of searching on this forum last night. I may be able to get the mirror fixed under an extended warranty if I can get it transferred. Otherwise the posts guruerror linked will come in handy.

I found a complete storage lid with lock and key on ebay for $50 so that worked out well. I'm still trying to find black hood latches and hood handles, but I may just Line-X them along with the bumpers.

Yes, the tires are in great shape. They're the same BFG AT KO's I have on my Titan, even the same 315/70/17 size. Those tires are near shot now and have 60K miles on them!

My other immediate projects:

Swap coils for airbags (parts already ordered)
Move the Yakima Load Warrior from the Titan to the H2 (have to wait on this or I won't be able to get it in the garage and on the lift to do the coils)
Rack for the bed (I gave up a lot of space from the Titan and will need something for camping and mountain biking)
Move the Pioneer AVIC out of the Titan and over to the H2
Move my air horns off the Titan and over to the H2
CB and spare tire antenna mount

Egan,

As far as the roof rack goes, I have posted this info before on here, so I found it and copied it to this thread............

The H2 roof rack locks are made by Thule. I just ordered a spare key for my H2 in case I lose it or break it. You can call them and order it or just go to their website at www.thule.com.

Their key numbers closely match the Hummers as Thules uses an "N" series while Hummers use the "E" series. So Thules N003 is the same as our E003 key. Thier cost was only around $2.50 each.

Hope this helps.
