After owning my H3 for a week I got hit with my first stone which put a small chip in the windshield. $500.00 to replace I thought I'd wait until I get a few more. The H3 may be very prone to this as the windshield is very vertical. Well today my wife said gee I'm surprised you didn't change the windshield yet, I said at 500.00 I'll for another. No sooner than I said that an old suburban passed in the other direction. I saw it. Smack. Nice quarter sized chip. Now do I wait for more.

I got one within the 1st week also.

My Wranglers windshield was like a bull’s-eye. I would usually wait until it doesn’t pass inspection before I would get it fixed, chances are it wont be your last.

On my 1st Wrangler (1989) Allstate raised my rates due to too many glass claims.

My winshield gets hit constantly with stones. I do alot of highway driving. I have a few chips in the windshield as well as the paint. Until it cracks, I think i'll wait. It's just going to happen again.

I've been very lucky - lots of miles and only three small chips, but one is directly in front of the driver's eyes. I took it to one of those windshield repair places and for 135 dollars you can't see any of them any more. They really did a nice job with that filler material they use. I would have let it go, BUT the one directly over the steering wheel drove me crazy.

you should be bale to find a new shield installed for $325. That's what I paid for mine. Now, I have glass insurance with no dedecutable. 3 years for $350, no deductable, unlimited times.

The HUMMER dealer may offer something like this for you. With your insurance company (at leat mine) they want you to pay your deductable.

Yea I have a few little chips in my H3 windshield after 7 months. Not a new concept with SUV windshields though. I remember my father showing me the pitting on his '92 Explorer when it was only 2 years old. He used his Explorer to drive from Sacramento to Tahoe frequently.

Gots to love ZERO deductable on glass coverage! I wouldn't have it any other way, and its the standard way of doing things here in MA.

I guess that helps to offset the ridiculously high rates...

I believe in your insurance is required to replace cracked windshields for free here in FL.

This chipping is definitely not unique to the H3. Those of us that owned Jeep Wranglers it the past have lived with this for years. I also cracked a Wranlger windshield when the body/frame twisted going over some large rocks, but the later Wrangler models are much more rigid. I haven't heard of any cracking on the H3 windshield from body and frame twist - they build these frames tough!

How does RainX stop you from getting cracks after getting hit with stones? Isn't it jsut a liquid coating on the windshield?

Living in Colorado you can expect to replace your windshield each year and I usually hold out unitl spring.....I have just gotten my first chip in the H3 and will just have it smoothed out until I get a worse one...then a crack. it will happen at some point...Colorado and winters plus a lot of miles per week mean I will get a big hit at some point.

I do know one thing that RainX will do, and that is keep bugs from sticking to windshield in the summer, better than anything! I used it all summer and was very satsified!

Its a pain to keep re-applying rain ex.I use the rain ex deicer . It cuts through the light ice on windshield keeps the blades from frezing in winter. It works well for the bugs in the summer.
It also treats windshield for rain every time you squirt it.
