Default maf sensor problems

does anyone out there know why my 2005 h2 should run really badly when the maf sensor is connected but drive absolutely fine with it unplugged i have tried substituting a sensor from another 05 h2 and the problem is exactly the same so sensor must be ok ! with sensor plugged in there is very little power and the acceleration is about the same as my neice on her bicycle
any help would be greatly appreciated
p.s no trouble codes are being set either with it plugged it or unplugged

Autoparts store MAF cleaning spray. Works good for a while but I eventually replaced mine.
