Default When to replace tires?

So I know this is a preference question but i'm wondering on average when is a good time to replace tires. I have toyo m/t's with almost 40k miles on them and they appear to have 35 to 40% tread on them. There is obviously a good amount of tread left just seeing what you guys think about it. no telling when i have the urge to do a little offroading and i don't want my lack of tread to keep the beast from plugging along.

I really think you will know! When you start loosing traction when you don't think you should or when you are spinning mud when you should be gripping. You will probably never really wear out a set of off road MTs. And you will probably get a different answer from almost any one you ask.

But you did ask and IMO you should change them when either of the scenarios mentioned above occur or at approximatel 25 to 30% of the tread remaining. Some of the newer MT's actually have wear bars indicating when you should consider changing the tire because at that point you have lost the tires real functional performance.
