Default Duramax/Allison conversion

Hi,

I have done the searches for Duramax and diesel on this forum, Google etc. I can not find the information about a company in Kentucky I believe, that was doing the conversion with a new transfer case, duramax 6.6 TD, 6 speed allison, and all the labor for about $15-17k. I read it here I think and forgot to save it back then, about 4-6 months ago.
Does anybody remember, or knows who that company is ? Maybe not in Kentucky?
Marsh and SinCity want 25K plus, Predator is 40K. Way too much. Anybody any ideas ?
I would entertain (to save some money) a gently used 40-60k miles engine with turbocharger, intercooler, the transfer case and tranny should be new though if all possible.
I have decided that I like my truck too much to get another vehicle, I need a powerful towing vehicle for our travel trailer and the diesel option if it can be done for 17K is something I would entertain along with the increased mileage and being able to run biodiesel.
Thoughts ?

there is a guy in wichita kansas that does them too! I will ask for some info on him and post it when it becomes available. He also puts the propance assist on them if you want. Getting low 20's on the mpg.

The duramax guys are near me, they are nice guys, and have some nice rides themselves. I ran into one of them on a saturday driving home.

His Rig had 800 ponies

Any news on your end ? Mash Motors ( formerly MG customs) is in Wichita, KS, I hope you are talking about somebody else....

Was 28,000 price for a Turn Key Job or were there gonna be some extras as usual etc...?

I'm sure there are always extras ... They quoted the basic conversion with no power upgrades but did not specify turn key, though...It's too much for me so I can't pursue that anyway....

For the boy's in Canada here is a site in Toronto that does a very similar setup along with options such as Turbo, Nitrous or Propane, they will also provide other goodies if you want them, base unit is just over 300HP/3100rpm with 512ft-lb torque right up to 800HP and 1400ft-lb torque.

Engine, tranny and transfer case no value for them, would return to me after conversion.

I'm estimating based on using all new parts as the guy quoted on this conversion job keeping factory gas motor. Why not go to 6 speed manual tranny short throw shifter with manual 2W and 4W drive selection on transfer case. They said $6700.00 on all new parts and said that interior looked like the manual setup was made in the rig factory. They said it doubled the MPG by being able to run in 2WD most of the time. In H2 now it would mean around 22 to 26 MPG. I'm guessing because they decribed very little fab work so $10,000 tops but, cost could be reduced with equip. used and labor being more like $2000. I did not check on labor but, you would have the factory transfer case and tranny to sell or they give break on labor to keep the replaced stuff themselves. This would be like $7000 for change out.

Just another angle.

Thanks Taz. Some of their numbers don't add up. I had a 2003 Tahoe that ran in 2wd all the time, had the 5.3L auto and the best I could get on it was 18-19 MPG. Now the Manual tranny would add say 2MPG. The Tahoe is almost 3000lbs lighter too. I just don't see how a 6.0L with a 8500 weight even with a manual tranny can average 22-26 MPG.

Another thing is my need to increase towing capacity with the diesel. I have a 32 foot travel trailer that when loaded weighs about 7500 lbs. The H2 pulls it fine now but the extra torque and HP from a diesel set-up would make it fly.
I also have a 1981 MB 300sd that I restored this year (took me 5 months and $6000) and form a pile of junk it bacame a vehicle I proudly drive to work every day. A neighbour offered me $7000 for it and I will take it when I find the place to do the H2 conversion. What can I say..I like diesels had 4 so far.
