Default Light bar question

I am debating on purchasing a light bar and found one on the internet for $600.

Here is a brief description (12 Volt, 55-watt, Halogen H3 bulb with a crystal glass lens featuring a multi surface reflector to really light up the night)

Is this bright enough, are there any cheaper alternatives? I dont have a brush guard so I am unable to mount lights there...

IMO, the bar looks nicely integrated. Not bagging on those that have it, but they just don't put out enough light.

You're better talking a factory roof rail and putting an LED light bar(s) or slim Hellas or PIAA lights on it. You'll be much happier with an alternative setup.

I have two bars in silver and two in black if anyone wants a set. We sjust need to figure a way to ship that bar, I can include some destructions on how to mod this up your self.

I have a similar light bar on my truck. The pattern it gives off is a very wide pattern that lights up a trail very well to the sides but not long distance. My bar was $1200 and and it has PIAA's

Tim,

I might actually be interested in buying one of your bars in silver or black. Does not really matter. I would like to have one for a back up light as that bar is perfect for reverse lights.

That's exactly how I received mine, wrapped up in bubble wrap. Black pieces were still attaced. The seller shipped them UPS. Hope that helps.

I just fabbed up my light bar using 8 4" PIAAs with extreme white bulbs. I simply replaced the PIAA bolt with a 4 1/2" long bolt, drilled all the way through from front to back and secured each light with PIAA supplied nut on the back side of the light bar. This method gives a little bit of a lower profile light bar.

Here is a picture of the front-

Thanks.

I paid 189.00 a set @ 4 sets. My local auto parts store, baxters, matched the Internet price so that was cool.

How hard was the install?
I have the stock two rails on top, which I never use.
Can I just move one of them all the way to the front, to use as a light bar?
Why do most people buy a third one?

The install so far has been very simple. Hardest part for a math retard like me was getting them all equally spaced.

I also took care to keep the natural but slight arc that the OEM bar has.

Honestly I think the amount of bars comes down to personal preference. I will have 4 including the light bar.

I wanted four for the look and the functionality.

You can use the one up front and keep the second, take the second off, get a third, whatever you'd like.

Hey you got me thinking about reverse lights now.

How would you wire those up, or better put how would you run the wire?

I have two extra PIAA 520s SMR driving lights that would mount perfect on my rear most bar.

When not in use I could just hide them by folding down towards the roof.

I would have a dual relay/switch set up.

The first switch would be controlled buy the reverse lights. I would run a jumper from a factory reverse light to a relay that would engage to have them come on automatically. I would then have another relay controlled buy a manual switch on my dash.

Both relays would be powered from the same constant 12V source. On the output side I would run a jumper from one relay to the other then one power wire to the bar.

This would keep you from shorting the system.
