First of all, YES, I did use the search button , and NO, I didn't find what I was looking for.
Getting that out of the way, here's the question.
Tires, specifically 315/75R16 sized tires. Those of you who have tried them, what are your thoughts? Handling, MPG, Ground Clearance, Off Road performance, On Road performance, etc. Is the extra clearance noticeable? Do they bring the suck? Do they rock?
Next question is tire brands/models. I know that Toyo M/T’s rock. They are high on my list. How about Cooper STT’s, Pro Comp XTerrains, Xtreme A/T’s?
If I can I want to get a set of H3 take-offs to mount these tires on and then switch whenever I wheel. If that doesn’t work I’ll ether mount up the 315’s or if you folks say they really are not a good idea, I’ll stay with 285’s.
So, what are your thoughts? Inquiring minds want to know.

I am imitating HI when it comes to tires
Sorry if this is a dumb question but I am a noob. Will going to 35"s help off road a lot or just a little?

I'm going to go with the BFG M/T's on my H3 .. I have had good luck with BFGoodrich tires and have ran the T/A's on my last two trucks ... I like the more aggressive look of the M/T's and they will perform better off road in mud and on slick rock .. you will give up some wet pavement performance with these tires and they are a little noisy.

That's what I want for mine as well, H3HUMVEE. It's hard to beat BFG M/T's. I'm waiting until the stock tires wear out. Post some PICS and comments when you get them mounted. Are you planning on 315/75/16's on the stock rim as I am? I'm wondering if they will rub? The A/T's are a little bit smaller than the M/T's according to the BFG web site. Let us know how they turn out.

I use to run the BFG's - they were a decent tire. Then Yokohama improved their tire and made it in a larger size... I have been running them for over a year now - on snow, sand, mud, rocks, gravel, and paved roads.
Sweet tires. Look great and work even better!!
They are the Yokohama Geolandar M/T+ availible in 315/75/R16!

CampMaster - You're running the Geolanders in a 315 on the H3? How are they off road compared to the BFG M/T? I'm pretty sure that I'm going to get 315's and put them on a set of take-offs and onlt use them when off road.

I prefer them all around. The air down well for the sand, hold up to rocky ruts, and really fling the mud clear of the tread. One thing in the PNW is how easy it is to find mud this time of year. I go through stuff as though it wasn't even there - without having to even get into 4lo - where before I neeed to keep a straight line and keep up the momentum. I drove in to a patch that wasn't very deep (only about 6-8" or so) stopped to wait for the vehicle ahead to clear the path up and out. Than took off up and out like it was on dry land.
These are the only tires I am running. They are suprisingly quiet on the road and handle wet roads and puddles without missing a beat. I ran BGF M/T's back on a ZJ... I hated driving those on the road or around puddles. Too noisy on the road and they pulled me into the puddle on the HWY - not fun.
As for looks - the BGF's are an established tire - though they look straight out of the 70's. I get asked by many people on the trails about the GeoLandar M/T+ tires. They make the trails seem easy and boring... guess I need to step up the level of difficulty on the trails!
