Squeaking Creaking Body / Frame Noise
I am having a hell of a time with some noise lately and it is starting to concern me.
If I slow down fast, or hit the brakes hard... or if I speed up quickly, the car is making an awful creaking type noise near the rear bottom, like under the back seat... (but underneath the car)
It really sounds like the body and the frame are just going to separate or something. I wonder if there is a bushing that may need to be replaced, or if something could be broken or about to brake...???
It is an 06 SUT with nothing but 17000 miles of pavement usage. Hopefully someone can offer some advice as to what the problem may be so that I can have some ammo when I take it in to the dealer

Re: Squeaking Creaking Body / Frame Noise
There are no greese points it's all sealed if I remember correctly. They do make noise over time (H1's are real bad) See if the service rider will go for a ride with ya maybe it's something they can locate?????
One time we had a drive shaft compression on a H2 and the tech and to do an adjustment at the rear axel. This is after a hard hit (even a curb bump)

Re: Squeaking Creaking Body / Frame Noise
IT may be your sway bar bushings that hold the sway bar to the frame,or other bushings in the rear suspension .I have found that useing the white lube you use on poly bushings works and lasts a good while. probably wouldnt hurt to replace the bushings any way and lube the new ones.

Re: Squeaking Creaking Body / Frame Noise
Emergency brake cable!
Notice how its tight over the left trailing arm! When you brake or accelerate, the cable tightens/loosens. Isolate tight spots on the cable housing where they can rub.

Re: Squeaking Creaking Body / Frame Noise
cable is tight and when rear suspnesion moves the cable moves as well. This tight moving cable can cause noises with the movement

Re: Squeaking Creaking Body / Frame Noise
Cajon,
Do you have any specific details on the tech letter? I called the dealer and have an appointment for Wed this coming week.... They told me over the phone that they have never heard of a problem like this, so I want to be sure I know exactly what is going on when I take it in.
Oh, and TOMP, I looked at the cable, everything appears fine down there... I played with it and I am pretty sure that isn't the problem..
THanks again for the help everyone!
Matt

Re: Squeaking Creaking Body / Frame Noise
UPDATE
According to the dealer the bushings that are between the body mount and the frame are going bad in the H2s. No fix is out yet, just regrease and replace if possible....
Hopefully no one else has the same issues, cuz its noisy, sucks, and took the dealer 2 days to fix..
On a side note tho, the service manager did call and tell me it is the best looking H2 they have had in their shop!! In large part thanks to my OEM Dash and steering wheel I assume!

Re: Squeaking Creaking Body / Frame Noise
not sure ,but if you take one out and bring it to the local Chevy dealer I would bet they are the same as an 2500HD trucks . I know energy suspension has Polly mounts . the Polly mounts may be too hard and make for a harsh ride though .don't forget to slap the lube to her.

Re: Squeaking Creaking Body / Frame Noise
With a vehicle that new I would make the dealer do it under warentee. if you want to do it yourself than I have had the best results with the lube that is used for polly bushings it can be a B*tch to get off your hands so use some latex gloves. you can get it at Energy suspension it is a translucent clear to white color and stays wher you put it almost like a soft wax .

Re: Squeaking Creaking Body / Frame Noise
this service advisor was such a P*ICK when I asked hime a simple question about this creaking. He says that the bushings aren't the problem. And, if oil changes were being done, then the grease fittings should have gotten lube. He also said that the skid plate could be the problem also??? He says to check the bolts....

Re: Squeaking Creaking Body / Frame Noise
Maybe you should talk to the service manager and tell him that you would like to speak the the GM arbitration rep because it is clearly under warentee and you don't enjoy haveing a sarcastic smart @ss service adviser talk down to you a paying customer. I bet there are other Hummer dealers in the Chicargo area that will treat you right . If it didn't creak when you bought it ,it shouldn't creak now one year old with low miles. It is clearly not designed to do that .

Re: Squeaking Creaking Body / Frame Noise
Personally, from experience, if it's front left corner the noise may very well be from the emergency brake cable. The cable comes right into the front-left part of the cab. Took my dealer several tries and never got it right until I brought this up! Look how the cable is stretched tight over the left rear trailing arm and you will understand how suspension travel tightens and un-tightens the cable and causes this noise.

Re: Squeaking Creaking Body / Frame Noise
Sounds like a good place to look, you are not going to be alone in this problem .if it happened to Tomp it is very possible you have the same problem in the same place, they are after all built exactly the same .
