Default Salesman doesn't make sense.

So, I was at the dealership today, to talk to a salesman about an ad they had in the paper which read:

"$263 per month. 5.3L V-8, 4x4, Automatic, Leather, Sunroof, Chrome Steps, Navigation and Much More!"

Of course the fine print read that tax and title fees not included, and $2500 total due at signing.

I tell him that I have $1500 I can put down on it, and he tells me the price would then be $355/month. Still not a bad deal... but $100 more per month if I put only put $1500 down?? That doesn't seem right to me. I tried to have him explain it to me. but nothing he said made any sense.

Does this seem right to anyone else? I left there confused, but now I really wish I would have stayed and questioned him some more.

What were the tax and title fees? And did you add anything in? That plus the $1000 less you're putting down might add up to the 100 bucks?

263/mo sounds really low - even though the deals on Alphas are pretty good right now. So they're saying if you have the $2500 down that it will be $263? $1000 difference should be about $30 in payment difference (assuming a 36 month lease/smart buy)...

Ah wait -- I just read what you said again. Tax, Title, License PLUS 2500. So yes, 3 grand difference (4500ish - $1500) will add about $90 to your monthly payment.

The fine print is $1500 down, with $2574 total due at signing, not sure if that makes a difference.

I just spoke to the salesman again, and it looks like I'll still be getting a decent deal... it just doesn't seem right that they advertise a price that isn't nearly what the actual price would be.
