Default State Inspection Failure

My H3 failed motor vehicle inspection. The inspector asked me if I had changed the battery which I had or had a check engine condition recently. He said this would cause a code that would not allow his equipment to register OBD emissions results...
He suggested driving it around for a few weeks or for 200 miles and coming back for a retest. Think I will find a local private re inspection station pay a fee and find either better equipment or tester.

Pretty common, had the same thing happen to me a while back on a Toyota, after I replaced the battery. In order for the computer to be able to send info after a reset (battery disconnect), the car has to be driven under certain conditions, i.e. constant 50mph plus for several minutes, certain number of start/stops, etc. Keeps people from being able to fake out the inspection by resetting the computer and clearing fault codes. If you drive it around for a while and take it back it'll pass.
