Default Spare Tire Eliminator Kit

I have a 2005 SUT and am considering removing the spare tire assembly and replacing it with the spare tire eliminator kit. It's time for a change in appearance and I think it would look much better. Given the fact that the piece weighs a considerable amount, has anyone who has removed the spare tire noticed any difference in ride with the decreased weight? Any advice or precautions on doing this?

Al,

No difference noticed here. I ran with it removed for about 25k miles before puting it back on. I was stranded after a blowout and decided to put it back on with a custom mount so that my tailgate would work in the open position when driving. I prefer not having it, but dont want to be stranded again.

I just removed mine recently and other than the cleaner look, I did noticed the truck raised up in the rear.

I had recently installed a leveling kit and the truck was level. I noticed the day after I took the tire and swing arm off, the back of the truck sits about an inch and a half higher in the rear.

The ride feels the same but the truck is definitely higher in the rear.

Could you post pics of that custom mount? I'm trying to decide what to do with the rear spare.
