Running Off road tires without swapping TPM sensors?
Do any of you off road folk have an alternate set of off road rims and tires without the TPM sensors? When running these is that going to set off the main alert on the dash board (yellow flat tire with ! symbol)? Will that effect performance ie: limp mode, throwing codes? I haven't disected the manual yet though plan to tonite when I get home, but I have a feeling it isn't exactly going to recommend this and was looking for experience as opposed to GM recommendation. Dont mind a blinking light, but a beeping and blinking light I wont be able to handle all weekend. Thanks all for everything so far!!

Re: Running Off road tires without swapping TPM sensors?
I would think no sensor would set off warning light.
When offroading with the stock tires the light would be on anyway if aired down.
Also whats this beeping you are talking about ,mine dont beep? just the warning light.

Re: Running Off road tires without swapping TPM sensors?
I have only ever seen the DIC display, never aired down enough to see the yellow indicator up above that, and dont think you ever need to go that low. My DIC doesn't beep so I guess I was wondering if the yellow does that (I hear it does beep). I can always resort to throwing them on there, but I haven't bought them yet and I would to buy everything and be stuck with an annoying beep, ya know?

huh, thats weird. on mine both come on at the same time. Theres only a beep at the initial time it comes on and then once in a while, kinda like the low fuel thing works.

Re: Running Off road tires without swapping TPM sensors?
I stuck my BFG MTs on a second set of OEM H3 wheels I got on Ebay without the sensors.. It hasn't given me one single error message..
Of course I know other folks that have done this and gotten an error message a couple of times and then it went away and still more folks that have been living with the error message for some time now..

You'll be alright. You'll get the occasional SERV TPM message on your DIC but that's it. That yellow flat tire signal will not light up. No annoying beep either.
Been running mine without TPM for over 2 months now.

Thats exactly the experience I was looking to hear. I can deal with the SERV TPM message. Thanks!

Re: Running Off road tires without swapping TPM sensors?
Suck, I haven't mounted mine yet. I have the starmate though, and its a bit bigger and I dont want to block that much of the cluster, but that style is pretty slick. I wish there was a way to interface through the head unit and utilize the on screen features set up for XM, but with Sirius. I have ben searching but with no luck.

There's a replacement Sirius Module you can replace the XM with.. Fits behind the dash and you use the regular radio controls... It gives you the Sirius stations listed and named correctly.. The only thing is it still tells you it's XM... No biggie...
Just search on Sirius here and you'll find info on the part #, where to get it and how to hook it up..

Re: Running Off road tires without swapping TPM sensors?
Awesome. I should always start here. I asked Radio Shack, GM, Al and Eds Auto sound and several other mom and pop stereo shops. No one knows. Thanks again to the forum! Cheers all !

Re: Running Off road tires without swapping TPM sensors?
I went to Tampa last week which is about a 2 hour drive from my house and all was fine, then on the way home the service TPM came on for about half the ride home. I run with 20's with 33's. When I had my 22's with the low profiles on the service TPM stayed on the whole time.
I don't know what my point here was going to be , except it seems that the service TPM does what it wants to.

Re: Running Off road tires without swapping TPM sensors?
Did you stop to check the tire pressure? Did you have the computer reset to reflect correct tire and rim size? And did you have the TPM units put into the new rims? From what I understand DIC Serv TPM goes off only when it is either doing its job reflecting low tire pressure, computer not set to right tire and rim size, or there is a faulty sensor. Kind of a pain in the ass if you ask me. Too many variables.

1. No.
2. No, but I need to.
3. Yes, but youre right I need to have the comp reset.
4. geez, I am blaming the sensor.
5. I agree it does seem to be a PIA
6.
I want to make another trip to see if it happens again.
