Default power upgrades...

does this really do what it says it does?

whats the catch?
i already know technically it isnt warrantable.

Sounds pretty much like a chip.... I think... Chips can do a lot for the engine, though you may no longer pass emissions testing. I believe (I could be wrong) that most engines are capable of more power, but are held back somewhat to meet certain EPA standards, etc. I'd say it's genuine. I know my brothers pop these into their BMW's and Audi's with good results. Not sure they keep the cars long enough (say 7 years, for example) to find out if there are any long-term complications...

Its a computer upgrade. Nothing more. In a 6.5 you will get a gain but nother like today's new diesels. If you throw in the computer, intercooler, exhuast, wastegate, and injectors THEN you are talking performance gains. Not too far shy of Alpha power, but its gonna cost you for all those litte toys. And on a stock headgasket your boost increase is gonna kill 'em sooner or later. Eventually you'll kill the engine, those mods will decrease the lifespan.

cause theyre talking like 100hp and 100 some odd gain of torque with the ecu mod and some supporting mods.....1600 dollar investment for that kind of gain seems just unbelieveable.
as long as youre not changing compression, and your air fuel ratios are good, i dont see where the damage would be done.
if longevity goes from say, 300k miles to 225k miles, i would consider that an acceptable trade off..

i take it no one has done some power mods?
what works reliably?
how much for how much?

I think 225K miles is a good trade off as well, but I doubt the engine is going to go that long. It very well could, but you would need to be nice to her. There's the problem: why the hell would you bolt on that power to not use it.

The figures given on HP and TQ gained are ahhh.... well, how can I say this? Optamistic would be a good way to put it. The concensus among the people that have put them on is that there is no way you have increased you power by that much. Think about it: you bolt on 100hp, thats a third more hp. You will feel a difference, and not a bad one at that, but not a third more horsepower difference.

As far as what you are doing to the engine. You ARE increasing the air fuel ratio, thats where the power comes from. Period. The injectors are squirting in more fuel, and the computer has re-mapped the fuel curve. In doing so you can greatly increase your EGTS, and you combustion temps. This is where the increased wear on your engine comes in. In that kit you are also increasing the boost, which is F-ing with your compression ratio, and putting even more wear on the engine. If I had the money laying around for these upgrades I'd buy them plain and simple. But, I would also make sure that I had the money for a new engine too. Just in case.

If you really want some power the best upgrade is an intercoooler. Period. You are loosing a true 50hp and roughly 60 lbs/tq by not having one. Diesel engines run much better with an intercooler, the use of the turbo with an intercooler produces a much more efficant form of forced induction. Albeit next to a built engine it is the most expensive performance upgrade out there, but its the best. And it will not decrease the life of the engine either.

hmmmm.....didnt know that abt the intercooler. figured it had one and that it was efficient enough.
the reason im inquiring abt power mods is beacuse if i lift the vehicle and go with larger tires, i dont want the truck slower than what it already is.

How big of tires do you want to run? The first thing that you would need to do is re-gear the truck to 3:08 gearing, that will account for the tire size and help return the performance to stock power.

not sure exactly how big i want the tires.
i plan on doing a 2" suspension lift and maybe a 2" body lift.
i still have to look into specifics because i dont want to mess up the drive train geometry....
i wasnt even sure if they made gears for this thing....
