Sitting in a line waiting to pay a toll, toll machine is obviously broken, I see a car pull in behind me, but thought it turned into the next lane....mirrors were completly frosted....reverse....BOOM....a cavaliar (circa 1992) has its front end smashed in. Hoping the insurance premiums wont go up too too much.
PS: No damage to the Hummer of course (might need to look into a rear view camera though)

Basic rule of driving YOU NEVER BACK UP AT A TOLL there are signs posted. You hit horn and wait for toll operator.
Basic winter driving rule scrape off windows and mirrors.
Basic rule for H3 owner GET A BACK UP CAMERA
Basic rule for this forum PICS PICS !
Really though , Hope theres no damage to your rig and the book value of the cavaliar is probobly $500.00.If you take a defensive driving class it will offset the higher insurance.Im getting banged $1,500.00 a year in NY with a clean record with the driving class.

Sorry to hear about the crash. Good Hummer H3 basic rules above. I have a $1000 deductible with my insurance which I really don't want to use. So I gladly paid $1100 for my Hitchcam to reduce the risk.
The H3 crashing while backing-up stories just keep on coming.

Hey man, I can relate. Backed into a tree on New Years (at my mom's house same tree I grew up climbing!). Just got it back on Friday - $2,780, new rear gate and window later, I'm back to normal.
Don't know the insurance damage yet, but agent (State Farm) said shouldn't be too bad (maybe $25-50).
Hope it all works out for the best.

What setup did you end up selecting for a rear camera?

I'm going with HitchCam for now. When I have the $$ for the DVD/NAV, I'll most likely keep the camera but then just integrate it with the Nav screen. I am also going to get the two in headrest dvd/monitors..Visualogic A-1000 for about $1300 for both.

When you & evldave go to take your driving test for your real licenses be sure to use the inside rear view mirror.
And before you get mouthy - shut it.

I feel your pain! I backed over my friends car on New Years day, few days later I ran smack into a "road gator" going about 75mph on the interstate, and last week got stuck between 2 trees at Barnwell Rec area. So now I have a nice big gash above the rear side window, scuffed bumper and crinkled chrome grill. My agent is going to love me! $400 deductible won't hurt too bad.

What's going to hurt is your insurance bill over the next few years. Ouch

Hopefully not. I have Allstate's "Platinum Protection". We'll see how that works out.

I happen to know a beautiful young lady that backed a big, mack-daddy, lifted SUT into an unsuspecting Honda in a nearly EMPTY parking lot recently. The only reason she stopped backing was because she heard crunching through the opened window. She said the truck didn't even shudder, it just kept going.
Bad for Honda, but the Hummer has just a paint mark on the rear bumper from their deck lid. I'd post a pic, but it'd give the culprit away.
Oh, then she had to listen to the officer explain Big Trucks and Little Girls don't mix. I sure hope the owner of that truck gets a camera soon.
