Best All Around Tire?
Hey Guys,
I'm looking for the Best All around tire for my H3. I live in Michigan and split my time driving my H3 for the usual driving to the store and stuff but most my summer driving is my Solstice (Way to go GM 2 Kick Ass Vehicle's in 1 year). So I'm looking for something that will be good in the snow, then I don't get to do a ton of off roading but I would say when I do it is a mix of 30% trail 50% sand and 20% real muddy. I have had BF T/A in the past and found them to be not too rough on road and good enough off road but I would like something a bit more aggressive, thinking maybe BF M/T? Also I'm thinking stick with 33's on Adventure Package just to keep with the travel as they already rub at full compression?
Your wisdom to the novice off-roader would be appreciated!
Thanks Guys
PS
Something that doesn't break the bank would rock as well.
(Anyone want stock tires with 2K miles and 1 year old can get a hell of deal)

Re: Best All Around Tire?
1. Get tires in 315/75R16. If you're going to spend $$$ on tires get the size you REALLY do want.
2. You live in MI. As I understand it lots of snow and ice. Just like in MA. Due to this look for a tire that is siped. The BFG AT KO is siped. The BFG M/T is not. If you get the M/T plan on the extra $$ to have them siped.
3. I love my BFG AT KO's everywhere except for sticky mud. Everywhere else they totally rock. In sticky mud they suck.
4. Take a look at the Toyo M/T, and the Cooper STT. Both are really serious M/T tires and both are siped. If I could do it over again I would go in this direction. If you can live with the sticky mud suckyness then the BFG AT KO rocks.
Good luck.

Re: Best All Around Tire?
I'd go with a black rubber tire with a hole in the middle so you can put it on a rim. And I wouldn't get the rubberband model.
Just my opinion.

He should be.
Fine. Get the Toyo M/T's or the KO's in 35". You'll be very pleased. The Toyo's are nice and quiet on the highway, too.

Re: Best All Around Tire?
I am runing the BFG All Terrain T/A on my H2. I have not had in problems with them at all. I ran them in the snow up in Flagstaff Az on some Off Road trail's and they did great. I have not had in problem with them in mud yet.
The frist set of tires that came with the Hummer (BFG All Terrain T/A ) I replace them at 52,000 Miles. My friend that is a manager at Discount Tire Store, told me that I got 5,000 miles over what they should be for tire wear, and I did do a lot of Off Roading with them.

Re: Best All Around Tire?
The nitto terra grappler is nice. I am using the Toyo Mud Terrain tire at the moment and I hear the Toyo AT is nice too.

Re: Best All Around Tire?
I dont think you can go wrong with a BFG A/T, untill the BFG M/T's I just bought for my H3 the A/T has been the tires I ran on the last 4 trucks I have owned. They last a long time, handle any terrain very well, look good, and are tough as nails. IMO BFG's are the best out there. I have tried several others and havent found a better one yet.

Re: Best All Around Tire?
Thanks all, from what I am hearin BFG T/A would continue to make me happy. I was always happy with them on my other rides and it sounds like a few others of you have found some other tires you like but many continue to like these as well.
Although I could go the billet route and get some blocks of rubber and create my own, then I could sipe them myself. (Actually I do have a family member with a rubber grooving tool for tires, who has done some very cool treads)...but for an on-road vehicle I think I'll pass
35"s How you guys doing with them? Like I said I have noticeable rubbing (not that I hear but I can see where they have) fom the stock 33's I would love the looks of the more aggressive T/A in 35" on my H3 but I don't want to lose travel. More info as you guys have lived with a 35" tire and off-roaded with it would be great!
Thanks to all.
BTW, those on the back of the semi-flat bed were my mine, I did a test fit and found they rubbed slightly more then a I cared for at full articulation. But man they looked killer

Re: Best All Around Tire?
Going to add in a few more tidbits of wisdom I learned today.
I had the opportunity to wheel with a TTORA group today. Lots of the trucks had the BFG AT KO's on and they, like myself, all had the same issue. Wet dirt clogged up the treads and turned the tires into slicks. Where there wasn't sticky mud... NO ISSUES. Where there was sticky mud... Slip Slidin Away.
One of the Tacos had the Cooper STT's on and I've got to tell you. That truck had zero issues with mud and climbed rock like a billy goat.
Take a serious look at the Cooper STT's before you make up your mind. Thats my $.02... Take it for what its worth.
OBTW - Pics from this outing will be posted soon.

Re: Best All Around Tire?
I have wheeled for 25 yrs in Michigan
BFG A/Ts are hard to beat for an all around tire on a DD
Their only weak spot is Mud.
I have Interco trXus MTs on my CJ7 and like them but BFG A/Ts are better in the sand.
Interco is an American company.

Dont put no Yokohamas,Toyos, or Fujimamas on your American Iron
