Default H3 or Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

I have been reading thru this board for a while now, along with some jeep boards. I was convinced on getting a new Wrangler unlimited (I can get friend supplier price) but then started looking more at the H3 which I can get employee pricing on. I know they are not completely compariable as one is more utilitarian and convertible and the other is more luxury offroad. I am starting to go more for the H3 now because with the discount and rebate I will be about the same price for a higher priced Vehicle.

Does any one have any complaints about the H3 to where they regret getting it? I really like the removable top on the jeep but would have to add lift, tires and bumpers after getting it. On the H3 I would just want to add an front bumper to it.

Wait and get the v8 model in 08. then you WILL NOT regret getting it.

I love my H3 but if your in the market, wait till late this summer. The H3 alpha will be released. I'm not saying you need the V8 I'm satisfied with the I-5 but you may be able to order your 3 with the cast iron front diff that comes standard with the V8. According to GM the cast iron diff will fit all H3's but will only come on the Alpha, the regular H3 will still get the aluminum one(weak point on truck) but maybe you will be able to order one with the diff upgrade? I test drove the 4dr Wrangler about a month ago and liked it also Phild bought one and is in the process of building it up, and It looks great. I would be happy w/either one. like you said one more lux, one more ute. good luck on your choice

I am fine with the 5 cyl. I dont need the V8 and dont do much offroading maybe 2 times a years. I was going to go with the H3 with base pkg and an auto might move up to adventure pkg but that would be all. When I drive off the lot with it, I should still owe less than what it is worth where as a Jeep I wont be getting much off maybe 2000 down from sticker for the friend plan. Where the H3 would be around 7500 below sticker.

I looked at both and took home the H3. My reasoning is as follows:
-I liked the H3 because it has more room for someone 6' tall and still offers plenty of room in back seats with front seats all the way back
-driving it feels much better on the streets as that's where I drive it mostly. More comfortable than the jeep.
-Most jeeps on the lots seem to have standard trannys. I wanted an auto tranny. Seems since most people want jeeps with manual tranny so I figured a jeep with an auto tranny might be harder to sell later down the road (JMHO).
-I liked the jeeps covertible options, but probably would have been more trouble than the times I would have actually used it. IE: less security etc. The H3 is my wifes, and we plan on adding DVDs. I didn't see DVD option working out well since the top might be off on the jeep and having to worry about someone stealing them.
-H3 offers more airbags (front & rear curtains) so I don't have to worry as much with the wife & kids in it.
-H3 comes with 100k mile warranty
-H3 makes it easier to carry stuff on the roof which comes in handy when traveling with family

Had the vehicle been for myseslf and not the wife and kids, I would have chosen the 4 door jeep Rubicon

I love my H3, for wheeling with the family. It goes anywhere I need to take them and does it in luxury. I myself prefer a crappy ride, roll cages, and heavy mods and a jeep is a better platform for obtaining this, or cheaper for that matter. Put it this way I wont take a sawzall to the fenders of my H3. It all depends what you want it for. Traveling in comfort and having the peace of mind you can drive off into the woods when you get there and not get stuck, H3 is perfect. If you want to roll through life playing Mad MAxx like me, a jeep is a good starting point. I dont care for the new 4 door jeeps, but that just my opinion, they look alright with a big lift, but stock, not so much my style. To each there own! Have fun choosing a starting point. This is the fun part of the game.

I used to have a 2000 Wrangler and loved it. I never had the top up in the summer. I also liked the removable doors.

I like the looks of both. The H3 does have more hp and towing capabilities. The Jeep needs larger tires for sure, otherwise it looks like a station wagon or something. I cannot find a Jeep on the lot anyplace the way I wanted and was going to buy one a week ago and decided to wait since I would have to order one and they cannot tell me when it would arive.

Now I am changing my mind becasue of the discount and rebate and looking at the specs on the two.

If you dont wheel that often and dont plan on modding it for wheeling, go with the luxury and the H3........

if you are going to wheel it lots and plan on modifying it, get the Jeep.....

dont want to really do any modding, no time, no extra cash for that we just had a baby. I would pretty much just be driving it which was another reason I thought about the H3, it come with larger tires, and more power from the start. for the same price I can get the H3 whereas with the jeep, I would have to add another 1500 for tires, wheels

Agreed, one of the best factory sunroofs in the automotive business. Worth it even at retail of $800 or $900.

As a daily driver the H3 is hard to beat. Even with the I5 (which is comparable to the Jeep's V6) it's still my choice.

The H3 sunroof is awesome! Its a good staging area for those attention wanting women? Its hard for some to keep their tops on, kinda like a limo sunrooof fetish thing. good stuff.

Kidding aside, when we were in Tahoe last month, we had the sunroof opened all the way and it was snowing pretty hard. The aero dynamics didnt bring the snow in it was awesome, blew right over the car. I dont know it had to do with the wind or if that was the way it was designed to be, or what.

With a family, go for the H3 w/adventure package. It's secure, totally plush on-off road, and you will get you there in style and comfortably. I love the open top on the Wrangler, so some time next year I'm going to give the wifey my H3 and get a 4dr Rubi so I can drive around in the winter with the top off in nothing but my boxers.

If we travel far, we'll take the H3, but we can also fit all 4 of us (plus 2 dogs) uncomfortably in the Rubi if we want to just go play near us and drive with the top off. Getting both gets you best of both worlds!!
