Here we go again people.
Okay, I wak into Starbucks this morning, pick up a paper (San Jose Mercury) and I see a yellow H2 on the front page. I'm thinking "cool, what's this about". And wouldn't you know it, under the H2 it reads 'If you buy this car, you'll owe $2500. Then there's a picture of a Toyota Prius, which underneath reads 'Buy this one, you'll pocket $2500. Now I'm thinking WTF.
It seems Calif. legislators are trying to pass a bill that would penalize "high emitting greenhouse gas vehicles" and reward low ones.
There was a list of 17 vehicles that would have a fee. Top 3 were the H2, Dodge Viper and Dodge Ram ( of course they had to put the H2 on the front page ). Whoever buys these 3 vehicles would get an addition $2500 tagged on to their sticker. Ford Expedition came in fourth with a fee of $2490. Last was the Chevy Trailblazer with a fee of $1333.
The other list had 28 cars ranging from the Prius to the Santa Fe.
Is it me or is this pretty lame. I'm all for preventing global warming and saving the environment, but this seems like some kind of witch hunt. If anything, they should go after those junky cars that aren't even smogged. There's thousands of those.
Guess I'll have to go to Nevada to buy my next Hummer.

Re: Here we go again people.
I just noticed that the other day, I thought it was only in crazy Canada. But, there was a $1500 gas guzzler tax on an '07 Cadillac CTS-V I was looking at, as well as a $2100 gas guzzler tax on an '07 E63 AMG. That's messed up.

I think its dumb to penolize people based on what they drive.
Why don't they do the same thing for people who heat their homes with oil instead of electricity?
Its soo dumb. They should focus on more important things!

Because Liberals and their Globull warming believe it is politically correct to go after vehicles that have poor fuel mileage. Meanwhile, the majority sits back and does nothing.

Re: Here we go again people.
What Global warming? East of the Rockies allot of cities had Snow Bunnies instead of Easter Bunnies.
In south Arkansas there was snow and normally the rice crop is planted and it is really a warm weather crop.
It was reported in a discussion on Fox today that the average temp. that scientist use has not gone up since 1998. The guy making the opposing argument said well You have to go back something like 100 years or more and look at long term temp. average. The sensible guy said well it would be hard to come up with temp average as Mr. Fahrenheit had not developed his temp model that far back.
If You want to skip all the bull come to AR with no extra charges. You could buy a rig and ship it for less than half of the use tax You could be paying. But, I'm sure there are places closer and our emissions would not meet CA.
In AR the cattle, horses, deer, Elk, and all the other animals create more harmful emissions than the humans do.
Man it's great to live in a gun toting wide open space where You can live with a neighbor that is 1/2 mile away and usually allot farther. You do not worry about robbery much since most would be thieves know we are told by the sheriff to shoot first drag them inside and ask questions later.

Hell if they gave me $10,000 back I would'nt buy a FN prius. In fact if they were giving away a free Prius I would give it back.
