Just wanted to make sure that Jason and all my fellow Florida members made it through Wilma without any problems. Around here it wasn't really any worse than our daily summer thunderstorms, just lasted a lot longer. I know those of you in South Florida got hit hard and hope all are alright.
That's all

Thank you Diz. From what I have seen the damage was not as bad as it could have been. Guess there is something to be said about having local governments that know what to do and residents that heed the warnings.

Hi all - yup we are OK down here in Fort lauderdale - I cant speak for Jason but I am fine. It was pretty wild - trees down everywhere - we still dont have power - you've got to love the sound of generators to be living down here at the moment.
Cell phone service is still pretty sketchy and my broadband connection has only started working today (Verizon - seems to be working well).
I haven't tried going out for fuel yet - apparently there are lines hours long at any gas station that is open - I am syphoning fuel out of the boat which I luckily filled last week - 350 gallons in there.
The thing that really freaks me out is the eyewall of Wilma was about 60 miles across - pretty big - but on a global scale it would be considered a pinprick. I own 2 properties in the world - one here in Florida and one in Playa Del Carmen Mexico - I wonder what the probability of the same eyewall of the same hurricane are of sitting on top of one property and then traveling 1500 miles and hitting another property owned by the same person (damm I wish we had power so that I could play the lottery this week). I have had some word from Mexico and it is good news though - Playa did not suffer nearly the devestation that was reported in the media - in fact about 75% of the bars and restraunts in town were open for business two days after the storm passed, no waiting around for FEMA to save their asses - there could be a lesson to learn from this somewhere I think.
So things are good down here - though we are losing a colossal amount of business due to the cancellation of the Fort Lauderdale Boat show this weekend - they have rescheduled it for next week - but the logistics of moving a show of this size by one week are a nightmare.

Cool, glad to hear from you Andy. I can definitely understand the whole sound of generators running everywhere. Keep safe!
