Default steering violently shaking while braking..

so on the highway today..

traveling about 55mph and started braking due to car in front of me.

front tires start shaking as if i was rocking the steering wheel back and forth very fast. slowly down made the shaking worse, but a little slower.

after i pulled over and looked everythign over, i drove away without any issues.
i have noticed for about the last week some minor vibrations while breaking, but nothing like this.

need some thoughts on this.

after i got home tonight, i looked it over once again.

nothign loose, or broke
i havent jacked up the front end to check lug nuts, but will be doing that.
both tires felt like they were well conencted during the shaking, not as if the tires were trying to go opposite directions, so i think the linkage is good.
steering box?
also thinking maybe brake rotors?

Sounds like your rotors for sure, did you by any chance run them hot and then hit a puddle of water? They can bend with hot/cold shock, even the slightest bend would make your steering shake, you can have them diamond cut shaved to make them smooth again for pretty cheap and get new pads while you're at it. See if that works?

was thinking of straight out replacing them ever since i first noticed the shakes.

the brake job is a little over a year old tho..

but i didnt turn the rotors before........

but i dont want to latch on the first response.. not saying its not it, but still listening to what else could be it.

I would check all of the steering components first. Like the steering damper, tie rod ends, etc. Warped rotors usually cause your brake pedal to pump up and down when applying pressure..

SD - about 2 years old, but dont suspect this to be the cause of the shaking due to its inate role in steering.
tierods- upgraded from Fabtech HD to the Kryptonites, but have not put the replacement ends on yet from the recall.

all ball joints were replaced within the last 6 months
upper and lowers, idler, pivoter, and pitman.
new shocks within this time
both half shafts replaced within the last 3 months

i just ordered new rotors, so they will hopefully go on minutes after they are delivered

http://www.ebcbrakes.com/automotive/...t_rotors.shtml
$192 from amazon FYI.. most auto places its mid $200
im thinking of rebuilding/replacing both calipers while i am at it, but not sure im that motivated yet.

I am going with the tierods on this one. You should get those swapped out since the known issues with the bad Krypto's. I ordered a set and did not install them. i had to swap them out. I stil lhave mine sitting in the garage though. LOL, I really need to get those installed. I read somewhere that they can get play in them with the "bad" ends. So I bet this could be your issue.

Steering stabilizer was my other guess since the other steering components were all replaced. Sucks, but you will have to go back through everything again, including the intermediate steering shaft too.

i thought about the TR's being the issue.. the only reason is before when i had the FT's HD tierods, i never had this shaking issue.. but about 3 months ago is when i installed the kryptos.

but.... how violently the front end was shaking, if it was the tierods, and had that much play in them to be causing it, im sure i would not be able to drive my H2 at all, and the problem would be noticable all the time instead of every once and awhile like it is now.

i do suspect the intermediate shaft, but thats from a long time pulling issue i have been fighting for over a year or so now.

i will most likely pick up a new shaft and replace that when i pick up new brake pads tomorrow.

the steering dampner i dont suspect because of how the shaking was.
really if you travel at 55mph and start turning left and right as fast as you can, thats what it felt like.

so i think the steering dampner was actually doing its job of reducing the quick bouncing back and forth.

Deff sounds like the rotors. if ya feel it in the steering wheel more-its prob the front. if ya can feel it in the seat more- its prob the rear.

Check the steering stabilizer.
I had to replace mine on my 06 at about 8K miles because it would do the same thing.
One of the few things the dealer wouldn't cover under the warranty.
