stock tires and wheels
I bought a 2003 H2 and it has 22 inch wheels and low profile street tires.I would like to do some off roading and would like to know if there is any advantage to going to 37x1250-17 tires on 17x10 inch wheels over the stock 8.5x17 inch wheels and 315/70-17 tires .I don't plan on lifting the truck but will put the Fabtech hd tie rods on it . I have been told the 37/1250-17 tires won't rub on it. if anyone who has any experience with this let me know B4 I make the purchase . I have the stock 17x8.5 h2 wheels but no tires and if I use the stock wheels I was planing on useing the BFG at ko's in 315/70x17 unless there is something better. any help would be greatly apresheated .

Re: stock tires and wheels
The narrower rim will be able to be deflated more and not lose the bead like the wider rim. It most likely will not stick out as far as the wider rim. with that large of tire, backspacing will determine how much you scrub your tires on the truck.....

Re: stock tires and wheels
I think the BFG MTs and Cooper STTs are better off road tires in the same size for less money. I've owned all three on different vehicles. I have the Coopers now.

FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS A TIRE!!!?!?!?!?!
Damn... You got a ATM attached to your chest?
There are a lot better tires for less money.
I presonally like Procomp Xterrains, but there are a lot of other alternatives as well.
$500 a TIRE?!??!
Sheesh... I'm still blown away.
For $500 they should at least be 24s...

Re: stock tires and wheels
Ira53,
I have a 2007 with factory chrome rims and I am running 37x1250x17
BF all terrain k/o's. I have yet to have them rub at full turn however I have not done extreme off roading either but as far as regular dirt and pavement i have been careful at full lock but have not heard or felt anything and have seen no rub at all. Now this will not give you a wide stance look and does make the tires look more narrower than the stock look but you have to decide what look you are going for.

Re: stock tires and wheels
not worried about the look at all ,what I want is a tire and wheel combo that will allow me to do some moderate off roading with out rubbing. if I don't get stuck I'll be happy . thanks for your reply and it sets my mind at ease knowing yours don't rub .

Re: stock tires and wheels
You can do a lot of reading on here about tire opinions, I did and found the Toyo Open Country M/T's were well liked.
I bought a set and besides working great and looking mean they are quiet on the road unlike a lot of other brands of M/T tires.
Prior to doing much research I thought the Nitto's might be the way to go, but based on what I read here and lots of other sites, I'm glad I didn't buy those.

Re: stock tires and wheels
AFTER MUCH RESEARCH I have come to the conclusion that a 35-1250/17 BFG mud terrain on stock H2 wheels will yeild the best over all on road off road preformance . it has a 34.8 over all diameter and the 315/70/17 has a 34.5 oad it is 12.5 inches wide as opposed to 12 inch wide on the stock size ,so my clearance and spedo will not be a problem . anyone ever run this combo ?

I had BG MT's on my tahoe and wore them out in under 25K miles. I am much happier with the Cooper STT's and they are quieter. I would say they are equal as far as off road goes. The coopers are much cheaper.

Re: stock tires and wheels
went with Toyo open country MT tires in 35/1250/17 on the stock rim ,will let everyone know how they preform in a month or so . going to do the Fabtech tie rods and give it a good work out the first week in June. what is strange is it is 13.2 inches wide ,I thought 1250 ment 12.5 inches wide .and 35 is suposed to be the diamiter but they are 34.8 ,the only thing they got right is the 17 inch .
