I promised photos for those that asked about the Gobi rack. If you'd like to see some nice photos of a Gobi rack with the off-road lights and wind ballast - see the thread titled 'Add. Gobi Photos' (posted by glockman in the General section).

SJ,
Out of curiosity, what did it do to your gas mileage?

NVR STUCK:

I don't notice any change to gas mileage. I'm still averaging about 12 mpg on the freeway according to the trip computer.

I can't stand looking at these roof racks. Every time I see how great one looks and how practical it is I am reminded that with the rack the H2 won't fit in my freakin garage!

Hummerman:

The Gobi Rack is great. I compared the Gobi to the Low-Profile Racks at Lynch Hummer/Adventure Accessories http://www.adventureaccessories.com/...ries/main.html

and I determined that cargo capacity and strength were my top priorities. The Racks offered by Adventure Accessories can hold a spare tire, but so could my Yakima Rack. I've seen racks that overflex and start to rattle or sag over time. So, I wanted the strongest option.

SJ,

You know, I looked at the others also, but I want one with an opening for the sun roof as well as the spare tire roof option .... and of course -- strength. Have you seen the picture of the Gobi Rack on a Yellow H2 with three men standing on it ???? Well, I ordered one yesterday with all of the lights, four on the front and the two on the rear ... I will post pictures .... my dealer says it will take a few weeks to get all of the parts together .... so you may see me around the Bay Area .... my license plate is "HMMRMAN" ....

Regards ....

Hope to see you in the Bay Area; I spend a lot of time "down by the bay."

The folks at Gobi are a class act and they worked through a local delivery service to coordinate the delivery time.

I may order some lights eventually, it does complete the look!

The spare tire ... are you able to put the spare on the roof and take it off yourself ??? or will it take two or three people ?

Hummerman:

I lift the tire up to the roof no problem. I place a blanket or towel at the edge of the back section of the roof and then push the tire up.

Ask me the same question in a few years, after my beer gut grows and arms shrink, and you'll probably get a different answer.

Now you have scared me !!! I do not have the "Beer Gut" ..... but, I am heavier than I used to be .... am 55 going on 30! I do like your blanket idea and I believe that wrapping the tire in the blanket on the ground may be an idea to consider also ..... I physically saw a rack mounted this AM at Putnam Hummer in Burlingame and I do believe that I have figured out how to carry skis and snowboards on the rack with the spare tire carrier ....
