Anyone take off their Roof Rack Crossbars and check gas mileage? Just wondering if you might pick up a 1/2 or more mpg.

I didn't check the mileage but did eliminate a squeeking/rattle when I removed them. I thought the problem was in the rear door. Should be getting the Gobi Rack this next week.

Ya know what's funny.....

Ever see someone who is clinically obese trying to wear clothes that have colors, patterns or styles that are "slimming". I've always wanted to walk up to some huge women and suggest to her that her moo-moo (sp???) perhaps makes her look a bit large.

I realize that's evil, but such things are within the bounds of my behavior. Course, I just think to do it while DRTYFN actually does that.

Much like the huge obese person trying the color black or vertical lines..there is no getting around it: 6,500 pounds and a big working V8 is going to suck-it but good. While the mpg number is fascinating, I find it best to overcome the curiousity and ignore it...it's never gonna be a happy-happy figure!

Hey...the sooner we burn through these polluting fossil fuels, the sooner we innovate better & cleaner fuels and energy solutions. We're just doing our part!

uh...nobody quote me on that!

Today I left my truck with an electronics installer to place an airhorn w/ PA and handsfree cell kit.
I had to remove both cross bars and light bar so my truck could get into his lockable shack, (for overnight security).
I found this could be done much too easily! Implying that "others" could help me next time, "while I was out"...
This left me wondering what the locks at the end of the bars are for?

Thanks Alec: I have the keys and guess what, they even fit in the locks in the cross bar caps.
I was referring however to the fact that I could slide all cross bars backwards and lifting them out of the rails (after removing the plastic inserts), WITHOUT ever inserting (and turning?) afore mentioned key(s) in their locks and removing the end caps off of the cross bars.
So I guess the locks are more intended for cosmetics and/or theft deterring? JCJ

I think they are meant to be used when you have the bike rack/snowboard ski racks attached.

To keep some one from stealing them? The racks I mean. I think a bike/snowboard would be history in a heartbeat

Now Steve, that's not nice. I remember going to my 5 year High School Re-union last year and seeing a girl that was huge back then but was absolutely stunning now so be careful. If you are slim now you could pack it on later and need the help of someone like me. Be careful what you say and stay away from Dunkin Donuts. I went there every morning while on vacation (for the kids of course).

BTW, yes I am kidding about my 5 year re-union being last year.

Sorry but one tool and 5 minutes and the racks are mine, equipment and all without touching the locks. So be careful. The locks do look mighty nice though.

BTW, I don't need another set, I already have one in my storage shed....
