408 Hummer road test....Medford to LA
Got the 408 running on Christmas Day. Me and my brother drove it from Medford Oregon to Gardena California to ship it to Germany on the 26th. It ran great for the 750 mile trip. I am changing the gears from 4.10 to 4.56 to compensate for the 37s. It pulls hard and strong, especially from 5000-6200. I am going to have Allen Nelson retune the PCM to shift at 6500 at WOT.
Next mods are lower gears, Cognito tie rod kit and idler kit.
The engine sounds really nice, especially at 5000 to 6200.
I will make some youtube videos as soon as it gets to Germany.

Gears, tranny and front end....
the best has arrived at the port of bremerhaven, germany. I pick it up Friday!!!
I have ordered 4.56 gears, and had the computer reprogrammed for shifting at 6500 at WOT.
I am saving for a FLT Maximum Performance level 7 4L65/70e and Yank PT 3200 converter, a 4200 dollar package. I dont want the pain of converting to an 80e and losing my low first gear.
I shot my load on the engine, and got a new job which pays way less, so I am taking donations to buy the new tranny....lol. The stock one with a shift kit should hold a few months if I take it easy (which is not my nature).
Still trying to decide on the Cognito or Exaxt front end parts.....anyone had any experience with these. I am leaning towards the Exaxt set up. I wish I could use the cognito or BMS tie rods with the Exaxt center link, but wont work.

Re: 408 Hummer road test....Medford to LA
After careful consideration, went with a CK Performance(out of New York area) built 4L65e. Price was right...2600 for transmission, and 400 for converter (400 rpm higher stall), and 400 core charge. The FLT and Yank was 5000 bucks. CK also gives a 12 month warranty. He swears it won't break unless I start BAJA racing....I did not want to swap to a 4L80e unless this one breaks. I like the low first gear, and the lighter reciprocating weight of the 65e. It should arrive in a month or so. After the 4.56s and new trans are installed , I will do some youtube videos (0 to 60, 0-max speed) and some off road action. I am constantly pegging the stock tach which should break soon. With the stock 4.10s and 37 inch tires, it was easily pulling 100 mph in second gear....at 60 mph it was almost idling down the Autobahn. It is in the shop at Geiger Performance, Munich Germany, getting some new fuel injector connectors installed. I was getting a PO200 code and it was missing off and on. Hope to get it back next week and terrorize the locals....is next mission is to add LPG injection (autogas in Europe). The 8.33 a gallon gas is killing me.....
