H3 FAQ - Acronyms & Definitions
Please post any acronyms or definitions you like (4x4 or vehicle related please). I'll add them to the top post to have them all in one place. Thanks!
AWD - all wheel drive
4WD - four wheel drive
FWD - front wheel drive
BCM - body control module
SFA - solid front axle
BTM - brake-throttle modulation
AAL - Add A Leaf. This is a leaf spring application where leaves are added to gain lift or load bearing capacity.
BL - Body Lift.
BPV - Brake Proportioning Valve. A device regulates brake pressure under load conditions.
FIPK - Fuel Injection Performance Kit. An aftermarket air intake component designed to enhance airflow and performance.
IFS - Independent Front Suspension. A type of suspension where the wheels articulate freely from one another.
Locker (or Locking Differential) - A locking differential is a device inside the axle that locks the gears together, allowing power to be distributed to both wheels simultaneously.
LSD - Limited Slip Differential.
MAF - Mass Airflow Sensor.
OEM - Original Equipment Manufacturer. This usually refers to components that are assembled stock from the factory.
SAS - Straight Axle Swap. This is a conversion where the independent front suspension is replaced with a solid axle, normally to gain offroad articulation.
SC (or S/C) - Supercharger or Supercharged.

Yesterday I thought I had a problem with my DI but the DIC gave me a DTC which cause me to wonder if maybe I should have ordered ESC if it was an option on my H3.
I also wondered FMVSS were being met as I tooled on down the raod. After abou a mile it started to get a little warm which made me wonder if the HCM has met the ISO.
You never know if the LTPI is correct if the MIL doen't have the NC 02S OE PTC.
So ..make sure You always check the DIC...
