XM came with my truck, with the 3 month subscription. Does the xm receiver in the car already use an ip-bus cable to connect to the oem headunit? So that I can just plug that ip-bus cable from the factory xm tuner into the brain of my avic-n2.

Or I see there is an XM data cable input right on the avic-n2 headunit, I assume the factory headunit uses the same input?

No. The oem xm unit is controlled via serial II databus commands which are present only in GM radios. You can definitely make use of the XM antenna though. By the way, p bus is strictly pioneer, no oem's or any other manufacturer uses that system.

Ok, so I would just need the XM tuner for my avic-n2, then where would I find the cable for the antenna? And would that plug right into the pioneer xm tuner?

I probably won't be keeping XM, just if I had all the items already, I was going to try to hook it up while I was installing the headunit. thanks

Also, I don't suppose I can tap into the antenna (I assume it has gps) and use that as the gps antenna for the avic-n2? If not no big deal, no one will see the pioneer antenna on the roof anyways.

The gps plugs from oem to pioneer are very different; I don't know if that could be modified to work or not. The oem xm antenna is directly behind and a little above the glove box plugged into the tuner. You will find that the oem tuner has a green plug and a cyan (yellow) plug--just get yourself a terk 2into1 xm slpitter and plug that into your Pioneer xm tuner. A lot of work/parts to mess with if you don't plan on keeping it!!

Yeah, it is a lot of work/parts. I probably won't be doing that now that I know I'll need an additional splitter (or tuner if I want nav traffic). Unless this free xm trial can change me over to sat radio, I haven't been impressed yet. I guess my tastes are too specific, cds work better for me.

thanks for the help!

My factory XM antenna pluged into my pioneer xm tuner with little modification.

All I had to do was remove the little plastic housing around the plug.

i have the opposite issue. i live in mexico and the standard xm antennas only receive the xm channels of 100 and up in this area. everybody here uses the old style larger computer mouse sized terk antennas to get good reception. if i mount that one, will i be able to splice right to the factory installed antenna already the roof? i dont want to impair the phone and onstar capabilities. or can i just run the lead to the tuner and connect there? is there a special conversion plug needed?

thank you

Don't splice any xm or gps wires. Instead, run the new lead from the terk directly to the reciever.

Thanks Kodiak. Will the terk cable plug fit into the receiver without any modifications or adapters? Is there a special plug i need. I know that some terk antennas come with two leads and others with a single lead.
Thank you
