Disabling the Shift light
Does anybody know if there is a way to disable the shift light on an '07 5-speed? That thing drives me freakin' crazy. It's that stupid orange light that passengers from the back seat keep asking, why's that light keep coming on on your dash? I tell them...Hummer doesn't think people who spend 30 grand on a manual transmission vehicle know when to switch gears. IDIOTS.

Yep, we're all idiots, so I guess this idiot can't explain what to do. Really too bad other idots on this forum, are not smart enough to know this idiot light is for CAFE requirements.
Well, this idiot has to get....

Re: Disabling the Shift light
Requirements or not, the question was if anyone has any useful advice as to disabling, is this something my dealer can reprogram, is there an accessible plug, do I have to disassemble the whole dash to take out the indicator light bulb...I appreciate any helpful answers.

Re: Disabling the Shift light
I say f*ck all the talk about idiots. There is no very good reason for the shift light. I don't think the light is a CAFE reqruirement specifically. What it does allow GM to do is claim a higher EPA gas mileage rating for the vehicle with the lame light, in order to meet overall fleet CAFE requirements.

Re: Disabling the Shift light
I know the shift light is supposed to help you get better mpg, but it wants you to shift at barely 3000 rpm. With the I-5 that makes for very poor acceleration.
I don't even notice it anymore. Give it some time navigator, you will be able to block it out soon enough.

Electrical tape, same way you fix all your "idiot" lights.

Re: Disabling the Shift light
The IDIOTS comment was for people who don't know when to shift--just wanted to address that. And I'd have to agree that while wrapping the little I-5 out to 6 grand is probably not a good idea, neither is bogging the motor down at 2500 while going up a hill with a stupid orange light screaming at you. So thanks for those with useful comments, for the rest of you my middle finger blocks out the stupid orange light...problem solved.

Re: Disabling the Shift light
I hardly notice it any more. But it usually seems a little off ... like when it tells me to shift into 5th going uphill at 40 mph . But once in a while, I get distracted and the light reminds me I'm still in 4th.
At least it's a cool gear shape instead of a giant up red arrow, or some GPS nav voice saying, "Shift up now ... shift up now ... you missed your shift ... you must depress the clutch and shift up".
