1994 HMCS Project
This is the thread where I will document what I've been doing on my truck. I didn't feel like making a web page, and I don't want to do this on HML because then no one here can view it. So enjoy all of the updation I'm about to release.

Re: 1994 H1 Project
Today's project was to remove some of the seats and apply my leather seat covers. I have had them almost a year and I have been anxious to install them. However, I have waited until now because they seemed complicated according to the directions.... Well, they were!
So far two are on, and it's taken 3 hours, 2 bandages, and my fingers hurt.
Old seat, YUCK!:
Duct Tape keeps the bottom on:
Seat back:
New seat, YAY!:

Re: 1994 HMCS Project
lookin good. forget the bandages, if it's a cut use superglue. press the cut together and then put a drop of superglue on.

Re: 1994 HMCS Project
I have given up on that self-mutilation fest for now. I have 2/4 seats done.
I was just out removing interior panels to see where I can put sound insulation. I found a leak somewhere is bringing water down into the cab. I also removed the rear door panel on the passengers side, and I'm trying to determine why the door lock isn't working automatically.

Re: 1994 HMCS Project
Sounds like its gonna be a good, long project car. The seats look good, and I hope that your fingers heal! lol

I was just out removing interior panels to see where I can put sound insulation. You can fit the insulation pretty much everywhere. I would recomend spraying the floors, rather then lay mat.
I found a leak somewhere is bringing water down into the cab. Probably the roof seams.
I also removed the rear door panel on the passengers side, and I'm trying to determine why the door lock isn't working automatically. If its an electric lock the cable usually is what is getting hung up. Sometimes the acuator fails, and then once and a great while a relay will go.

Carey, what do you recommend? I haven't found anything yet. I'm going to look around at some of the A/V stores today that do car audio and see what they use. I found some rubber mats too that are about 1/2" thick for use in the floor and the ceiling.

Re: 1994 HMCS Project
You might also want to check the front window seals, mine are so bad it blows bubbles when driving in the rain. not too much of a broblem unless i've recently washed it. then the bibbles get realy big

Haha, that's crazy. I think my seals are pretty good, but I've got some sticky windows which I'm still trying to evaluate. But when the windows go up the sound goes down... somewhat...

Re: 1994 HMCS Project
I used Dynamat Xtreme, nice stuff but it is REALLY expensive. I think I spent 150.00 on just 14 sq ft, which is about enough for two layers on the doghouse! I would look on ebay, you should be able to find 100+ sq/ft for around 100-150. HUMMERDOGG, knows of a product that I would like to use next, I cant remember what its called, but I know if you do a search on the HML you will find the name.

Re: 1994 HMCS Project
Use some dielectric grease on the inside of the window tracks (where the window slides up in the seals) to fix this. I believe HUMMER updated the design to fix this problem in later years.

Re: 1994 HMCS Project
In response to the sound insulation:
I found Hushmat for $5/SQ Foot. I cancelled the order however as I found pipe insulation, which is a foam mat of sorts, from a local HVAC company for $1.66/SQ Foot. It's a little bit on the thick side (about 1/2") but it looks like acoustic insulation, and it should be great for stuffing into the b-pillars and roof. It actually is made into cylinders later on, but I managed to get some from before it goes into that process.

Re: 1994 HMCS Project
Alright, I took off the crash pad today and some other trim. Here is the heater/AC/blower unit that has to be removed, and replaced or repaired:
This is just a view looking inside from the passengers door. I hope I can remember where the three long screws and one short one came from that bolt on the trim!:
My acoustical mat is visible there in the middle. Also, I am in the process of selecting a new audio system. I have been looking at a Memphis audio set up for about $1000 including 4 speakers, 2 amps, and a sub. I will also be looking at a new headunit.

Re: 1994 HMCS Project
Foam insulation seems to be going in well. It might make squeaks when driving, but this has YTD. It is easy to cut, very flexible, and expands when you let it go so it fills up the space, and holds itself in. Seems like it will dampen the sound significantly if I can put enough in.
Time to go looking for A/V equipment!
