I just recently had my slip yoke replaced to correct the bump issue. Now, if I run in any of the lock modes and then switch back to 4-high, it doesn't immediately unlock the transfer case. The 4-high unlocked mode light is lit, but the transfer case is still locked...when turning you can hear the strain on the tcase and the tires will skip/shudder as expected. If I backup, 25 feet, 50 feet, a couple hundred feet, it's still locked. If you drive straight about several hundred feet 0.1 to 0.2 more more miles, it unlocks. This is very repeatable, but not how it worked before the slip yoke replacement.
Is this clearly abnormal behavior or might I have to fight with the dealer to get it corrected?

I think it's normal. It doesn't unlock right away. I know Paragon's is the same, and our old truck, too.

You need to get an alignment.
Mine worked the same way, until I took my truck in to see the Transfer Case Whisperer. Now, it unlocks immediately. Just kidding of course, mine does work just as you described, as did my Tahoe (which was a real PITA to get out of 4-Low).

That's interesting. My 03 Sierra and my new H2 both go from 4-hi locked to 4-hi almost immediately. Though, on the H2, I've only done it twice; on the Sierra, 4Hi unlocked was called "4WD Auto."

As beat-to-hell as your undercarriage is, I'm surprised it stays locked in the first place!

Ok, need some clarification. It's impossible for it to "stay" in 4Lo with 4HI unlocked lit up and THEN switch to true 4HI while moving.

Clarification
Either scenario shows the problem:
Scenario 1
1) I'm in 4-hi locked
2) while rolling, I hit 4-hi
3) 4-hi button blinks a moment and then stays solid (i.e. it tells me i'm in 4-hi)
4) while rolling, turn side to side, hear strain on transfer case and tires shimmy (tcase is still locked)
5) drive carefully avoiding sharp turns for a couple blocks, slow down turn, no more strain and tires roll smoothly (tcase unlocked).
Scenario 2
1) I'm in 4-lo locked
2) while barely rolling, I pop it in neutral and hit 4-hi locked
3) 4-hi locked selector button light blinks for a moment, tcase thunks (sometimes), then light stays solid on 4-hi locked
4) continue from #1 of scenario 1.
I'm not concerned with the rear diff lock, just the transfer case.
Or do I need clarification about what you need clarification on?

More better.
No problems going from 4LO to 4HI unlocked?
I'll see if I have provided an explanation for this before, if not, I'll make one up.

How about the Syncro's haven't popped because there's still stress on the diff?

How about you provide an explanation why this a slip yoke replacement would cause me to go from an clean, immediate, syncro-popping tcase unlock before the repair, to the behavior I now see.
I guess I'm fine with it if it's pretty normal. I'm just curious why the change.

Packed snow/ice, hard pack frozen dirt, and blacktop. By snow/ice, I mean, change into 4-hi in the snow and drive onto blacktop nearby and it's still locked.

I don't know. I'll check if it does the same thing for that shift tomorrow.
