I got some pipe wrap and applied it to just the section that needed protection.
It's burning 2x as hot now on the wrapped section. About 500*. Right before and right after the wrap it's mid 200s. If I take the wrap off it's mid 200s.
I thought header wrap was supposed to insulate the pipe, blocking the heat.
Anyone know why it's burning twice as hot in that one wrapped section? I need that section to be as cool as possible for the spark plug wires.
Really baffled here.... HELP!

Are you saying its because I only wrapped a small section, and that if I wrapped the entire header it would be cooler not hotter?

The BEST thing would be to get those new LT's ceramic coated in and out so they retain the heat better but I just saw your thread about the install so that's out.
Mid 200's shouldn't effect plug wires. Just dont have them touching.
The point of wrapping just one section was to insulate it because with OEM plug wires and the LT headers there is no way two of the wires won't be in direct contact with the header.

I'd call up the mfg and ask them what the correct solution to this is.
They don't return calls, and the couple resellers I've found including the one I bought my kit from aren't worth a sh*t when it comes to knowing anything.
I was hoping H2Much would post a picture of his DT header on the driver side. The OBX and DT are supposed to be the same I thought.
In any event, I just removed the section of header wrap and temps are back down to the mid 250s. Coil pack plugs are actually all even now so the header wrap was hurting not helping.
The heat tape combined with the wire sock is good to go!
Still like know the reason wrapping just one section of the header raises the temps in that spot. I know it's some physics thing but WTF.. ?
