chrome mirror inserts
i just bought this used chrome driver and passenger side mirror covers off of ebay. I then went to "pop" them into place . After trying to do so i found they would not as the clips or somthing prevented the cap from making a complete fit. It would only go on about half way then appear stuck. I was wondering if anyone with around a 2004 h2 or whatever had similar problems when trying to add this custom chrome cap to the mirrors. I dont know if i'm supposed to break off the metal prongs (as shown in the pic) to make it fit or if more likely i'm just not doing something correctly while trying to install.

Yes, there are. Here's a thread that describes two ways to get the original caps off for a swap. One way is to remove the glass to access the mounting tabs from the inside, but the second way, with a putty knife, lessens to risk of breaking the glass. http://www.elcovaforums.com/forums/s...ce+mirror+caps
It looks to me like the caps you have are not "custom" but just a set of OEM chrome caps.

Re: chrome mirror inserts
when it comes to cars or trucks these things i do surprise no one... honestly wait till i tell the other guys...i'll never hear the end of it lol.
"if you use a small flat heat screw driver and a putty knife on the under side
where the cap attaches to the outside of the mirror, it pops out with a gentle twist, make sure they are warm, not cold an brittle. Hot is best. I wouldn't"
i'm guessing thats the knife method in entirety?

Re: chrome mirror inserts
I have new upgraded mirrors coming from the dealer
If they give me back my original chrome mirrors, anybody who wants the chrome caps can have them, you pay shipping.
You dont want the mirrors, they are loose at the knuckle like all of them, reason for the upgrade.
Hucky
Mirrors will be available to me in 2 weeks time from tommorow.

Re: chrome mirror inserts
Ask questions first and then do the work, If ya break something it costs more money. At least you got the balls to go for it.
Cheers
