XM Radio Help

I have recently installed a gobi rack on my H2. Now my XM satellite radio reception is crappy. I am sure its due to the wind deflector. So, my current thinking is that I can mount a new XM antenna to the XM receiver and route the antenna to a clear spot on the back on the truck.

Here is the issue: Does anyone know how to mount an aftermarket XM antenna to the existing XM receiver? Based on the antennas I have seen the plug looks completely different.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Usually all XM antenna plugs are the same. Most of the time the different companies will put little colored plastic tabs on them that prevent you from hooking up a different company antenna to their unit.

All you have to do USUALLY is remove the aftermarket plastic piece that they put on there. Then TYPICALLY the antenna plug is iddentical once you get that piece removed.

Granted, this isn't always true, but hopefully in your case it is and will work.

Got it. Pull the little plastic cover off and it worked like a charm.

Be VERY careful with the XM antenna wire......its about as fragile as fiber optic cable.....if you kink it somewhere it will break inside and stop working.

XM is having sat problems, signal has been decreased! MAY HAVE NOTHINGTO DUE WITH YOUR UNIT!

XM's technical issues (NET NEWS 5/21) continued through this morning, but have begun to clear this afternoon. The following notice is currently posted on XM's website:

XM Radio Resumes Normal Levels of Service

XM Satellite Radio has resumed normal levels of service for customers who experienced outages or significantly degraded service starting yesterday.

The problem occurred during the loading of software to a critical component of the satellite broadcast system, which resulted in a temporary loss of signal from one of the company?s satellites.

After you turn on your XM radio, please allow five to ten minutes to reacquire the XM signal.

XM apologizes for any inconvenience this has caused.

this is ongoing so don't belive it will be fixed in one day

Thanks for the input. I was aware of the outage and my issue is about 3 months old (ever since I added the Gobi).

The existing wire seems to be safe.

Use the method I PM'd you about. That will cure your issue and is a very easy fix.
