Default Batteries HELP

Guys, I have an 03 softtop. I generally leave it parked for extended periods of time and this time the batteries were dead.

I used a regulary 12 amp charger and conneted to the first, then second batteries until the green fully charged light came on. When i turned the key everything lite up but when i went to start, i had nothing? not even a tick...tick.

My question is even though the 12 amp charger I used said the batteries are charged, is that enough of a charge to start the truck.

I was going to purchase new batteries, but I thought I'd ask you guys first. Thanks

Not sure what the problem is, but check the connections on the battery.
In the future you might consider disconnecting the battery completely and keeping a trickle charger on it.

Try and start it again, only this time try something for me. Turn the key on and let the glowplugs cycle, but when you go to start it use your right hand to push the shifter up and to the left (while its in park), then try and start it with your left hand. If the truck starts, you've got a bad neutral saftety switch. If you cant get it to go PM me and I'll try and help you out more.

Guys, It looks like I have a bad solenoid and hopefully that will cure my problem. Very unusual for it just to stop working. Has anyone removed a starter before. I understand it's a bit of work.

Removing the starter isn't too bad. but beware it is damn heavy and arcward.

1st remove underbody protection
2nd remove bell housing starter cover
3rd remove wiring be carefull thin wire going to solinoid can be a bitch
4th remove bolts from starter there are three. two near bell housing 1 to engine mount. acctualy one on engine mount is a nut. the two near bell housing also have a shim between starter and lower surface of engine.

like I said it aint light. about 20lb so dont dropit on your heador anywhere else.

Good luck.

while I remember under body protection is also VERY heavy. if your removing it on your own remove bolts from mid cross member (2 off). then the two side supports(8 off)4 per side, then loosen bolts on front cross member (cant remember if its 2 or 3).
at this stage im usualy under the cage support with floor jack and renove front c-member boltslower jack. front end will drop below c-member. to remove you need to move it forward about 2-3 inches. this thing weighs 40 lb+ so try to support both ends remember getting it back is harder. ive found the best way for me is to lay under it lift it with my legs and kick it back in.

Have fun. wish you had video so that i could see what I look like doin it

Good luck. And remember to disconnect the battery first, there is a hot wire going to the starter. Where are you getting a new starter from? FWIW Parts Hut in Hartland can get it for over 200.00 less then the dealer, just talk to Don he will set you up right.

Here's an article I wrote on swapping the starter in an H1: http://hummer.off-road.com/hummer/ar....jsp?id=376147

Hope that helps...
