Default Some thoughts on today

I realized today why I'd never sacrifice weight, size, and safety for MPG. I was about 3 cars behind this giant Ford truck (a HD commerical truck) with a trailer, and it turned right inside of this other woman who was turning to go down the same road at the same time. The truck plowed into her and pushed her up a hillside. Luckily, the big truck hit her in the rear passenger door and missed her drivers door AND she had her seatbelt on. She was driving a hulking Buick LeSabre which helped too. I ran over with all my first aid supplies after calling on channel 9, but she wasn't bleeding or anything apparently life-threatening. She went to the hospital, but I suspect she'll probably just go home with a concussion.

But that was one of those moments where had she been in a little compact Kia or Honda or some other small thing (like an Aveo) she probably would have been in much worse shape, especially if the truck had gone into her drivers door. I went home then thankful I was in something that, even though it's slightly more expensive to fuel, it's probably going to give me a great chance to walk away on the day some idiot decides to come plowing into me. I always think, it's not me I'm worried about (I drive about 5MPH over the limit), it's the other morons out there.

Must be talking about me. I am one of those other morons. I tailgate, speed, push cars out of the way that are in the spot I want to be in, and mostly cannot stand to be in traffic with other vehicles. All this and I am not even behind the wheel of the beast. I am a nice guy when in that.

She's probably thankful you pulled over to help her out.

That's one woman who probably has a changed opinion of Hummer owners.

Yeah, I think I was the only direct witness that stayed. Everyone else just kept on going. So I probably helped her insurance case at least...

It was great that you stopped to help. Unfortunately, as you had witnessed, most people choose to keep on going. You know she was grateful.

I was out late one night and me and my woman came up on an accident where small ford ranger run a red light and hit a small compact broadside. The compact was smashed from both sides due to the Ranger hit it - then it flew through the air and smashed the drivers side in from hitting a concrete pillar from an underpass. There were 2 white sheets covering the bodies as we went by and needless to say I am happy to he in a Hummer! Up high, though and heavy as hell. I know it wont protect you against all situations but your odds are WAY better than being in a Honda Civic.

Nice going, Aubs.

I always drive like a pu$$y in the H2. I can't stop that fast and I just know I'll kill someone if I hit them.

I pity those people in compacts that get hit. But not so much those that pull out in front of bigger vehicles.

She was released from the hospital and wasn't hurt severely.
