Why are you going back to stock?? What aftermarket system did you have?

Re: I'm putting the stock air filter system back on.....
GM parts direct should have it . FYI the stock intake works fantastic on a Stock engine . it may not look kool and make alot of noise, but it just plain works .

I wanna see the difference if any besides the noise....after looking at the dyno...the only gains (which are minimal) were over 4k rpm....when the Heck are ya ever driving at 4k???....I had the 77 series K&N .....it may be for sale soon if I'm pleased with the stock.....I think after looking at GM parts direct it's called the SEAL after doing some searching that I need for the air box MAF connection....thanks and if anyone is intersted in a 77 series K&N full system with instructions and all hardware, just as if you bought it new,(as well as the box) w/ less than 3k on it....I will get rid of this one very reasonable very soon!! I'm not crazy about the additional noise it puts out.....

Re: I'm putting the stock air filter system back on.....
The other day we had an H2 with an aftermarket "cold air induction" and the intake air temps were reading 139*. At that temp the vehicle pulls about 14* of timing (not good for performance). Put the stock system on and the IAT went to 89*. As IRA said, it just works.

Re: I'm putting the stock air filter system back on.....
I would have to agree on the stock set up. Especially if you are an offroader. The Donaldson air filter supposedly does not let water through. And the intake has a nice resivor that will hold more than 1/2 gallon of water if it was to some how get through. Thus the water has a place to go before the engine swallows it and dies.
The only aftermarket system I would consider is the Volant. The other systems pull air from the engine compartment thus resulting in higher air intake temps. Also if the intake system is made of metal it will retain heat better from the engine compartment and do a better job of heating the incomming air and that is a bad thing as stated earlier in this thread.

Re: I'm putting the stock air filter system back on.....
I think most people freak out at the cost of a filter element ,and make the change over to aftermarket systems thinking they will save money in the long run. the rest do it for the sound and the promise of more power. too bad $25.00 replacement elements don't exist . I change mine every 5000 to 10000 miles and you can see the fuel milage and power take a hit at just about 6000 miles ,half my driveing is off road .

Hey I have a K&N series and would trade it for the stock system, no maf sensor needed but everything from the intake to the air cleaner. Dummy me threw it out

Re: I'm putting the stock air filter system back on.....
The Donaldson power core is supposed to be like a 60K+ mile filter. Now if you are driving through dusty desert 90% of the time I can under stand 1/2 that. But wow I mean these things got there start working on heavey construction equipment in dusty locations like mines and what not.

Re: I'm putting the stock air filter system back on.....
all I gotta say is WOW....I thank anyone who posted anything negative about the K&N filter systems to get me to try the stock setup....I WILL NEVER OWN ANOTHER K&N setup in my lifetime!! My H2 is like a whole new ride....no JOKE!! I cannot believe the power the K&N took away from my ride.....Thanks IRA51 for your post about 3 months ago...I read it and decided that if u (a reputable poster), think the stock is better, than I wanted to see for myself.....and damn!! Either the ole K&N goes on Ebay or turns into a boat anchor, but will NEVER be back under the hood of my Hummer!! thanks again!! ok I'm done ranting now....lol

Re: I'm putting the stock air filter system back on.....
I have seen first hand that the "oiled" filters can have way too much on them and fawk up the maf sensors.
I had the volant kit on my last H2. The first thing I did was to clean it and get the excess oil out and through it back in. ...dealer suggested that.
The K&N's aren;t all that bad, but again the oil on those things get plugged up and can be problematic to your MAF sensor and cuse bogging once they get compltely full of crap.
fwiw. I plan to run (if I ever sell this damn Alpha and get antoher SUT) the stock setup with Airdoc's kit. It retains the stock airbox and gets rid of the noise dampner.

Re: I'm putting the stock air filter system back on.....
The biggest thing I've noticed is really how much HOT air the K&N lets in..it is NOT sealed well to be an open filter....the engine heat KILLS the motor...I noticed that the most of all....On a 95 degree day the Hummer became a dog!! that's when I realized it had to be too much hot air getting through the lousy K&N blockoff design.....NM

Re: I'm putting the stock air filter system back on.....
I know they are suposed to last longer ,but you should see the dirt on them after just one romp through the Sonoran desert. now I will admit I run it long and hard so I should expect it .I vacume them with my shop vac and after about 6 or 7 vacumes it's time for a new filter. I'm thinking of trying the Fram power core # CA9900 at rock auto for $41.00 .and with the $6.00 rebate $35.00 is not too bad

Re: I'm putting the stock air filter system back on.....
Volant is the only true cold air kit. The OEM setup is not that bad if you use a better flowing filter and and airaid intake tube.
I have an Airaid intake tube brand new in the box, if anyone wants one
