In pursuit of the best WHISKEY......
As I stated earlier, my new year's resolution is to figure out whiskey. Sure, I've had plenty of whiskey here and there over the years. But I wanna get more into and figure out (1) The best overall whiskey regarless of price, and (2) the best 'everyday' whiskey.
I started early in December and polished off bottles of Gentleman Jack, Maker's Mark, Jack Daniels Single Barrel, and Black Maple Hill (16yr version).
So far I'm partial to the Black Maple Hill, but it's the most expensive. I really like the JD Single Barrell too.
So tell me - What the best for version (1) and version (2)?
Here's my latest purchases this week:

Definitely #2! Turkey 101 is best.

Re: In pursuit of the best WHISKEY......
My stock is running low.
Had a JW Red, Black and Blue but that all went bye bye last party. There's one in there worth $400 and it's almost gone.
Drank alot this month. Weird.

Re: In pursuit of the best WHISKEY......
Kira drinks the JD stuff. I get headaches from that.
CROWN is the way to go for me if I'm out.
I think you need to clarify though...
Staight up? or mixed with coke or other beverage?

That says it all. No decent whiskey gets mixed. Already been at it, eh?

Re: In pursuit of the best WHISKEY......
I prefer just drinking the whiskey straight. No Coke. No Ice. I like it that way, and it seems the best way to truly differentiate the tastes.
I'm sipping some of the Wild Turkey right now. I have to say it's not too shabby. But there is a bit a medicinal taste to it that.
My next purchase is going to be a bottle of Crown Royal. I've never had that.

You drink it straight without ice???
I suppose you like to drink it straight out of the bottle too standing around a fire in a metal drum wearing wool mittens with the tips cut off?
You're soooooo white trash.

The only time I'm alone and enjoying a drink is between 11pm - 1am when everyone is finally tucked in. And normally during November and December for some reason. The rest of the year I don't drink that much. Like once or twice a month or unless there are guests or I'm travelling. It's weird I know.

Hahahaha!
I've had it all ways. But since I'm on a quest, I need to have it in it's purest form.

Re: In pursuit of the best WHISKEY......
I love the Jack...ice, no ice, or mixer....depends on the situation...then again I am a squire since age of 16, so I guess my grandfather destined me to the JD!
CO, when your done with the wiskey you need to do the T-Killyah....that's my new taste test!

Re: In pursuit of the best WHISKEY......
To fully enjoy the flavor of a good whiskey you are actually supposed to put a splash of water in it CO. It opens up the flavors fully, or something along those lines.
Crown is good stuff, about all I drink these days for whiskey.
Buy the entire Knob Creek line. Its goes (lowest to highest grade) Knob, Basil Haydens, Bakers (my fav), then Bookers (thats the occasional one).
Im not a big JD guy, but I like Beam Black label.

I was just teasin' ya, bruthuh! My actual favorite is Grey Goose vodka in a dirty Martini. Although I once tasted Oat Vodka and it was amazing!
