Default NAV Installed

Finally getting some pics up of the NAV system I installed a few weeks ago. Was looking at going with the Pioneer Z1 but got a killer deal on D1 from a friend of mine. Installed the D1 and the Pioneer GEX-P10XMT XM tuner with XM Traffic.

Love having a NAV system.

Enjoy the enhanced XM display as well.

Have not needed it yet but also have XM Traffic service which is great. I can pull up traffic issue and if I have a route that goes through a traffic issue it will re-route me around it. Waiting on the traffic flow feature to start here in Orlando.

Thought I would also post a pic of the H3 since I had not posted one since getting the cross bows and rocker rails.

I am considering the same upgrade. Here are some questions if you do not mind.
Is there a 'Trail' dvd available for the nav system. I have topo 5 on my computer which, for me, rocks. Is there something similar for that system. I love getting way into the back country in my trucks. I formally had a Scout 11, and a defender 90, but much prefer the comfort of my H3.
How hard was it to install ????

As far as I know the only maps you can get are the ones that come with it. That would be very cool though to have a "Trail" DVD

Are you still able to use OnStar and the telephone? It's the only reason I would do the stock NAV upgrade so I wouldn't lose that.

Have not really used them to any extent since the install but did test them and they work great. You need to get the adapter for them to work though.

The whole setup with the D1, XM/XM Traffic tuner and all install hardware and adapters ran me about $900. Keep in mind, I got a killer deal on the D1 from a friend. It is used but only for a couple of months and I know how he takes care of things. You could probably do the same setup for $200-$300 more without any trouble. Keep your eyes on Ebay and you might be able to do it for about the same amount. I was looking at going with the new Z1 but when the D1 came available there was no way I could justify to myself the cost of the Z1.

Ok. I think I am going with the Z1. The question of the day. How complicated is it to install. here are some questions, if you have time.
How, in the first place do you get to take out the factory radio.
Where did you mount the new XM radio module.
Is this something a shade tree mechanic (me) can do.
I will install the bluetooth adapter as well.
Any, and all info on the install is greatly appreciated.

2006 H3. All the goodies, except the Z1.

I personally thought it was very simple but I have done many many installs over the years. The get the factory system out you just need to remove the silver dash panel by sticking your thumbs in the power sockets and pulling out. Once you get the bottom right corner to come out just slowly work you way up. You will need to unplug all the connection except maybe the hazard switch. Once you have the panel out of the way, there are 4 screws that hold the factory unit in place. Remove those, unplug the unit and you are done removing the factory head. I mounted my XM Tuner to the air box directly behind where the head units goes. There is enough room and it give easy access should you need to get to it later. Just follow all the instructions for the wiring harness and OnStar/Chimes adapters and you should be set. If you have never installed a stereo before I would at least ask the shop you are buying from what they would charge to install it. I would hate for you to hook something up wrong on a unit that costs that much and be SOL. Let me know if you have any further questions and I will try to help.

Check with member kodiakz. I didn't get them from him because I wanted to get my new toy installed and was too impatient to wait for the shipment he had coming it. Should have waited just so I could give him the business, he has been very helpful to many members. I have not seen any posts from him on the new forum but try sending him a PM. You might try sending one from the old site as well in case he has not setup yet on this site. Just let him know what you are installing and that it is going in an H3 and he will know exactly what you need to get and will steer you in the right direction.

Thanks. Unfortunately not yet, just have not had the time. Any hints on some of the best hidden features?

Wow! Beautiful job HummerNewbie!

Can you tell me how much you paid for the entire setup and who you could recommend on the Westcoast?
